Week in Review – There was a great deal of focus on judicial matters this week
Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Barrett to the full Senate for final confirmation. As if to illustrate the great divide in this country, the 12 Republican senators on the committee all voted in favor of Judge Barrett at a committee meeting specifically scheduled for the vote. The 10 Democrats did not bother to show up for the meeting. They arranged, instead, to have supersized posters of individuals who supposedly rely on the law, in their seats. Republicans denounced the gesture as theatrics. Everyday Americans see it for what it is—self-entitled members of Congress failing to do their duty. Officially, Judge Barrett was approved unanimously by the Senate Judiciary Committee. After a week of hearings, not a single vote was cast against her.
The next step in the process of having Judge Barrett take a seat on the Supreme Court is for the full Senate to confirm her. It will take a majority vote in the Senate. There are 53 Republicans in the Senate, which should be enough to assure confirmation. However, two of the Republican (Senators Collins (ME) and Murkowski (AK)) generally vote supporting Planned Parenthood. So the vote will be close. At this time, the full Senate vote is scheduled for this Monday, October 26.
Also yesterday, The Epoch Times ran a story on Joe Biden appearing on “60 Minutes” this past Sunday. Biden said that, if elected, he would immediately be looking into changing the judicial system in the United States. This, of course, comes at a time when President Trump has appointed hundreds of conservative judges across the United States and is about to have his third appointment to the Supreme Court confirmed.
The Epoch Times article included the following: Biden said, “If elected, what I will do is I’ll put together a national commission of, bipartisan commission of scholars, constitutional scholars, Democrats, Republicans, liberal-conservative.” He added that they will have 180 days to come up with recommendations on “how to reform the court system because it’s getting out of whack, the way in which it’s being handled.”
Our concerns about his remarks are that this is coming from the same people who are trying to erase the history of this country as they are literally tearing down statues and landmarks. They are trying to change law enforcement by defunding police departments advocating community policing. They are trying to take voting power away from smaller states as they advocate eliminating the Electoral College and try to replace it with a straight popular vote system. They want to open our borders to allow just anyone to freely come into this country—regardless of their background or criminal intent. And now they want to revamp the court system because they are afraid judges will actually follow the law instead of inventing the law.
America needs God.
In other news this week, racist Planned Parenthood continues to move ahead with plans to open an abortion facility in Lubbock, Texas. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported on Tuesday that “Advocates with West Texas for Life and others displayed signs and hosted a prayer vigil at 22nd Place and Memphis Avenue—a former dental industry facility that Lubbock Central Appraisal records show Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas recently acquired.”
As the pandemic continues, Planned Parenthood continues to open killing centers across the country. These include new facilities in at least six states (California, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Texas, and Virginia). STOPP is beginning our annual research on Planned Parenthood facilities in the United States and will issue a complete report at the end of the year.
