Many have seen the disturbing undercover videos used to capture Planned Parenthood executives and others negotiating for the acquisition of preborn baby body parts. The filming of such individuals casually sitting in public places, sipping wine, and talking about their trade is disturbing.
Watching all of the videos, which of course is required if one wishes to speak or write about them, is tough. But hard truth needs to be understood if one is to diligently strive to stop the carnage.
So how is it that one survey finds that 70 percent of the American public has not heard of this scandal? I believe that part of the reason is that the pulpits are silent; ignorance is bliss.
And this is why Robert Royal writes that when Pope Francis comes to town, if he “speaks only along expected lines about immigration and the environment, and not this massacre (and the legalization of gay ‘marriage’), it will send a silent message that the Church in this country is not really serious about the things that most challenge our consumerist, throwaway culture.”
Yes, there is a growing sense that in many quarters of the land a conscious decision has already been made that this argument and the attendant videos are only a blip on the fast-paced screen of life and eventually everyone will be back to business as usual. After all, there is a lot of profit to be made on these baby body parts, and the scientists involved in using them have been doing it for decades. In fact, as recently as 2014 “the National Institutes of Health doled out $76 million in government grants to institutions using fetal tissue to develop an Ebola vaccine. . . . Between 2011 and 2014, 97 research institutions, including universities and hospitals, were entitled to $280 million in federal grant money for one purpose: using fetal body parts for ‘scientific’ research.”
Many of the institutions listed among those 97 facilities, including Vanderbilt University, have refused to reveal where they get their stash of baby body parts.
And still America snoozes.
It’s challenging to understand this callous disregard for human beings, but it is an exercise we are compelled to undertake. After all, those of us who do comprehend the extent of such evil are obligated to God to tell everyone what we know and why it must end.
Monsignor Charles Pope has given this a great deal of prayerful thought. In a recent reflection on the source of “this darkness of our times,” he attempted to explain one aspect of this—the sin of intemperance, or lack of moderation or self-control. Pope writes, “Thomas teaches so well in the Summa, sins of intemperance have a particularly powerful role in darkening the intellect.”
Pope hits on the core of the subject at hand, the marketing of the body parts of aborted children, when he says that “very few seem to be waking up, connecting the dots and realizing that horrible pain has come from the sexual intemperance of our times. Instead the darkness deepens, and many have doubled-down on the confusion.”
Clearly the popularity of aborting our children came about as a direct result of the widespread availability of contraception. That is a proven fact. Not only that, but Planned Parenthood has been “teaching” for years that sex has no limits. “Students come to understand, through their indoctrination, that sex is a right for all and is green-lighted as long as the young people protect themselves against the two enemies of sex—STDs and babies.”
And there you have it!
When an alleged unplanned pregnancy occurs, Planned Parenthood stands ready to either kill the baby by abortion or help the expectant mother find someone who will. From there, selling that baby’s body parts is not a stretch of the imagination at all. In fact, for Planned Parenthood and its ilk, it’s just another source of income.
The wine is red, the babies are dead.
Will America wake up?
Will the pulpits come alive with truth in teaching?
