Pro-Life This Week – December 20, 2019

Week in Review – Merry Christmas; Nation’s largest abortion chain under fire; MBW

On this last Friday before Christmas, we wish you all a very Merry and Holy Christmas Day. We all, of course, celebrate the birth of Jesus – our Lord and Savior. We encourage all of you this coming week to take time, amidst the blur of gift giving and parties, to remember Jesus. There is a popular sign that proclaims, HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON. Let us not forget that. Back in 1982, the Oak Ridge Boys released a holiday album that included the song “Jesus Was Born Today.” Next Wednesday, let’s remember to wish Jesus a Happy Birthday!

Green Bay, Wisconsin is known for its professional football team – the Green Bay Packers. For the last couple of weeks, it has also become known for its active and dedicated pro-lifers. It recently became public knowledge that the Green Bay Packers Foundation has given grants to Planned Parenthood. Dan Miller, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, told Charlie Butts of One News Now, “Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is responsible for 4,639 lives taken through abortion. Here in Wisconsin, we are politically, morally, and religiously opposed to abortion in every way … So here we have this conundrum where this organization, which is so loved by so many people throughout the entire world because of what they’ve done both for the NFL and for the city of Green Bay, to violate our conscience who are also Packer fans.” Miller … encourages pro-lifers throughout the country to contact the Green Bay Packers Foundation, ask for an explanation, and urge the organization to commit to not aiding or abetting abortion again.

People opposed to Planned Parenthood are also tremendously active in Kansas City, Kansas as they campaign against a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility opening in their city. Ron Kelsey of the group, Planned Parenthood Exposed, cheered when the owner of a building Planned Parenthood leased under an assumed name discovered it was the abortion giant, canceled the lease. Kelsey’s group is not only opposing Planned Parenthood’s abortion business, but is also highlighting Planned Parenthood’s sex promotion. Kelsey said, “We’re also bringing up the sexual immorality that they promote to our children, which really fosters what I call a continuous loop of evil for Planned Parenthood.”

In other parts of the country, those opposed to Planned Parenthood have thwarted the organization’s announced intent to open three new California facilities (in Highland Park, Glendale, and Baldwin Park) by the end of 2019. Equally dedicated opponents of Planned Parenthood in Port St. Lucie (FL) convinced the city to put a hold on all efforts by PP to renovate a building PP owns until all permits are properly filed and approved.

Those opposed to abortion continue to embrace the spiritual weapon of the Rosary. To date the Marian Blue Wave has received endorsements from Cardinal Burke and Bishops Strickland, Sheridan, Brennan, and Burbidge. Individuals and groups from all 50 states and 29 countries have made commitments to the Marian Blue Wave.

A couple of weeks ago, we asked you all to call your U.S. Senators and let them know that you oppose Senate Bill S-2080, the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act. That act deals with Palliative Care and Education as part of America’s health care system is fatally flawed. Thank you for all who called. As a result of a great outpouring of concern, the senate did not vote on the bill and it was removed from the calendar. It is expected that the bill will come up again for a vote in 2020. Please continue to express your concerns. We will follow this bill and bring you breaking stories as they occur.

Announcement: Due to the timing of Christmas and New Year’s Day, Pro-Life This Week will not be sent for the next two weeks. The next issue will be in your inbox on Friday, January 10. We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and safe New Year.

Action Item of the Week – The Feast of the Holy Innocents

On December 28, in the midst of the 12-Days-of-Christmas, the Church asks us to take a day to remember the slaughter of the young children as Herod tried to kill the baby Jesus. According to the account in Matthew’s gospel (Matt 2:16-18):

… when he found that the wise men had played him false, Herod was angry beyond measure; he sent and made away with all the male children in Bethlehem and in all its neighborhoods, of two years old and less, reckoning the time by the careful enquiry which he had made of the wise men. It was then that the word spoken by the prophet Jeremy was fulfilled: A voice was heard in Rama, lamentation and great mourning; it was Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be comforted, because none is left.

This year, December 28 falls on a Saturday – a prime day for abortions in the United States. It is estimated that, on that one day, more than 3,500 innocent children will be killed by surgical and medical abortions.

What to do:

  1. If you have a surgical or medical abortion facility, or an IVF facility, near you. Go there and pray for the innocents who will die that day. Pray also for their mothers and all involved in the killing procedures.
  2. If you do not have an IVF or a surgical or medical abortion facility within driving distance, go outside any facility that dispenses so-called contraceptives (this could be anything from an abortion referral office of Planned Parenthood to your local pharmacies and hospitals). It is well-known that contraceptives inhibit implantation and cause the death of babies. Stand outside these facilities and pray for the babies and all involved in dispensing child-killing drugs. Your presence could result in saving the lives of many babies.
  3. If you belong to the Marian Blue Wave, say and extra rosary on Saturday for an end to abortion and Planned Parenthood.
  4. Hold a prayer service at your home, read Matthew, Chapter 2, and reflect on how much the original death of the innocents in the bible reflects what is going on every day in America.
  5. Pray to God and do whatever peaceful, prayerful activity he prompts you to do. Remember always Christ’s instructions in Matthew 10 – be wise as servants and gentle as doves.
