Week in Review – Physician-assisted suicide gains major endorsement
Major news in the pro-life world this week involved ethical treatment of human beings at the end of their lives. This week, a major physicians’ association voted to drop its opposition to physician-assisted suicide as a viable option. This is in direct conflict with the American Medical Association’s opposition to physician-assisted suicide.
The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) debated the matter and, in typical social engineering strategy, first changed the name of what they were talking about. You see, physician-assisted suicide sounds awful. So, one of the first things AAFP did was to change the terminology to “medical-aid-in-dying.”
The pro-euthanasia group, Compassion and Choices, posted a summary of the discussion that took place by AAFP members. It was not a surprise that, as the discussion went forward, there was rhetoric reminiscent of the nefarious arguments used to gain acceptance for abortion. The posted summary noted: “Several members testified that they were personally opposed to medical aid in dying but were supportive of the AAFP taking a neutral position, recognizing that several of their colleagues and patients had differing perspectives.”
PRNEWSWIRE published a Compassion and Choices statement on the change in the AAFP position. That piece contains the following quote: “AAFP delegates approved the resolution, which ‘captured the spirit’ of resolutions introduced by the California, New Mexico, New York and Washington Academy of Family Physicians, by voice vote with no objections.” (Emphasis added) If this report is accurate, at the end of the day, not a single family physician stood in opposition to doctors helping to kill their patients!
The actual action section of the resolution approved by the physicians is:
RESOLVED, that the American Academy of Family Physicians adopt a position on engaged neutrality toward medical-aid-in-dying as a personal end-of-life decision in the context of the physician-patient relationship, and be it further RESOLVED, that the American Academy of Family Physicians reject the use of the phrase “assisted suicide” or “physician-assisted suicide” in formal statements or documents and direct the AAFP’s American Medical Association (AMA) delegation to promote the same in the AMA House of Delegates.
The PRNEWSWIRE piece also includes many statements by those involved in pushing the killing of human beings at the “end of life.” We encourage you to read them to get a sense of this ongoing battle for life. We will bring you here the statement by the medical director of Compassion and Choices:
“As a former delegate for the American Academy of Family Physicians, I am proud that the organization has adopted a position of engaged neutrality to ensure its members can advise terminally ill patients about all end-of-life care options and provide them,” said Compassion & Choices National Medical Director Dr. David Grube, who was honored as Family Physician of the Year by the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians in 1986 and Oregon Medical Association Doctor Citizen of the Year in 2009. “I believe many AMA constituent societies will follow suit, so it is only a matter of time before the AMA does as well.” (Emphasis added)
We bring you this news to let you know that the killing of adults deemed to be “at the end of their lives” is gaining momentum. We have covered, in our Celebrate Life Magazine, many stories of this happening on a regular basis. Things are going to get even worse unless the pro-life community stands up and does something about it.
ALL in the News – Abortion rhetoric, Planned Parenthood-speak, Facebook Live Rosary, Radio Show.
In Judie Brown’s commentary this week, Lofty Rhetoric Versus Nonnegotiable Truth, she deals with the fight against abortion using the rhetoric used in the now-concluded Kavanaugh confirmation process. Judie concludes her commentary by saying,
Only if and when the preborn child’s right to life is recognized as a nonnegotiable right will his freedom and his right to life be secured. This is the challenge we face. This is the truth upon which the very existence of our fight to secure protection for the innocent preborn child is hinged. This is the principle that is sorely absent from public debates and wildly disrespectful demonstrations and speeches by elected officials such as Senator Susan Collins. St. Thomas Aquinas once wrote: “[It is] better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to contemplate.” Pro-lifers must illuminate the nonnegotiable truth that abortion is not and never has been a political matter. Abortion is a deliberate act that results in death—the death of a fellow human being.
Judie Brown did an interview with OneNewsNow supporting Pope Francis’ statement that obtaining an abortion is the same as hiring a hit man to kill your child.
Judie Brown will host a Facebook Live event tomorrow, October 13, the 101st anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima. The Rosary will take place at 9 PM (Eastern) / 6 PM (Pacific). She will lead a recitation of a decade of the Rosary praying for the conversion of mothers and fathers considering aborting their children. The babies need a miracle; the parents need our prayers.
Jim Sedlak’s commentary, Dr. Wen Is Beginning to Learn PP-Speak, is about the incoming president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and her difficult transition from being a medical doctor focusing on patients to being president of PPFA, focusing on profits and killing children.
Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Death is a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. It can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time) and is repeated on Saturdays (10 PM) and Mondays (10 PM).

This widower cares for terminally ill children. It’s a full-time job, with little rest, but these children are among the most vulnerable among us.
Action Item of the Week – Gosnell in theaters today!
The highly anticipated feature film, Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer, opens in theaters all across the country this weekend.
The film is the shocking true story of the investigation and trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell—his 30- year killing spree and the political and media establishment that tried to cover it up. Originally investigated for illegal prescription drug sales, a raid by DEA, FBI and local law enforcement revealed crimes they could not have expected within the clinic.
The movie is based on the New York Times best-selling book, “Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer,” written by producers Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer. The book became especially controversial when the New York Times initially refused to feature it on its bestsellers list despite sales figures that revealed it should be on the list. The New York Times admitted they adjusted the list as an “editorial decision.”
Facebook banned any advertising for the Gosnell movie. Your voice is needed to spread the word.
For those who are concerned about the content of the film, it is rated PG-13. You can see the trailer for the film here.
The film is being shown in OVER 600 hundred theaters across the United States. You can get a list of the theaters in your area by going here.
Newsmax’s Michael Clark wrote: “Despite its beyond-clunky and heavy-handed title, the actual content in “Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer” succeeds as both a procedural drama and a damning commentary of the non-coverage by the national media of a seminal, watershed event in American history.”
Michael Faust at crosswalk.com tells you five facts about the movie that will help put things in perspective. He ends his column stating, “The film does what Jesus commanded us to do: chase the truth. For years, Gosnell’s dreadful acts were known to city officials, but nothing was done. Then someone decided to take action. A blogger at the end of the movie gives us good advice: ‘If the truth doesn’t match what I believe, it’s still the truth.’”
Ed Morrissey at HotAir.com writes a positive review that ends with these two paragraphs:
Gosnell is rated PG-13. Despite the ghastly nature of the crimes involved, there is very little of a graphic nature shown on screen that would be too much for sensitive viewers. This isn’t a film for small children, mainly because a procedural like this won’t hold their interest, but teenagers will easily handle the imagery.
Thanks to the nature of independent film, the best chance to see this movie in the theater is to watch it on its opening weekend. The film’s website has listings for theater showings, so be sure to start making plans now to catch it on the big screen.
THIS IS THAT OPENING WEEKEND. DO NOT MISS THIS FILM!
Pro-life Social Media – Planned Parenthood Fears the End of Legal Abortion.
After the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court, Planned Parenthood took to Twitter to share its plan for the end of abortion in America.
We refuse to let our country become a place where people can no longer access abortion. Today, we launched #CareForAll — a nationwide effort to ensure that abortion is still accessible no matter what happens at the Supreme Court.

“Ensure that abortion is still accessible no matter what happens at the Supreme Court.” It appears Planned Parenthood is preparing to defy the law when Roe v. Wade is overturned.

What exactly is Planned Parenthood to do when abortion is illegal? According to its “Care for All” memo, Planned Parenthood believes that an overturning of Roe v. Wade will force mothers to travel across state lines to kill their children. Its post-Roe plan is about growing its abortion business in “abortion-friendly” states like California and New York while expanding its telemedicine abortions in order to reach as many mothers as possible in those states.
There’s one little problem, though. The overturning of Roe v. Wade is not a guarantee of states winning the right to decide the legality of abortion. If the preborn child is once again recognized as a person, then state laws are meaningless. Imagine a preborn baby being a person in Alabama, but if he travels to California with his mother, he’s no longer a person. It’s absurd. When, in recent history, have we witnessed the overturning of a previous Court decision that forces states to take the decision upon themselves?
If Roe is to be overturned, it will be all-encompassing. New York and California will have no say. Perhaps Planned Parenthood’s plan is to defy federal law, kill babies anyway, and force the courts to deal with it once more.
After all, Planned Parenthood is very good at breaking the law.
