Week in Review – Planned Parenthood loses in Arkansas, holds a conference and launches new website
Arkansas has been a battleground in efforts to take taxpayer money away from Planned Parenthood. Back in 2015, Gov. Asa Hutchinson ended the state’s Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood. Since then, Planned Parenthood has filed lawsuits to try and force the state to give it funds. Early on, US District Judge Kristine Baker issued an injunction to prevent the state from withholding the funds. However, a federal appeals court overturned Baker’s ruling and lifted the injunction. Planned Parenthood filed a new lawsuit and asked Judge Baker to issue an injunction based on the new claims. This week, Judge Baker refused to issue the injunction and Arkansas will not be forced to fund Planned Parenthood. That’s good news.
Planned Parenthood finally had its Power of Pink conference in Detroit, Michigan, last weekend. We have been telling you about this activist conference. Planned Parenthood has been really hyping the conference, continually stating that it would train 3,000 activists how to organize locally to influence the November elections this year. Commenting on the Power of Pink, the Detroit Metro Times reported, “a crowd of two thousand people from around the globe.” Once again, Planned Parenthood over-estimated its influence and had an attendance of less than 70 percent of what it expected. Former PPFA president, Cecile Richards, was a speaker at the event and this statement from her not only sums up Planned Parenthood’s goal for November but should be the goal of pro-life groups as well: “Marching is great. Getting pussy hats? Great. Going to town hall meetings? Great. But voting? That is the whole idea. That’s how we’re going to change power. We’ve got a lot of work to do.” If we want to defeat Planned Parenthood, we must elect pro-life people to office in November.
Planned Parenthood launched a new website, Unstoppable Now. The website seeks to describe a new movement that is “powered by Planned Parenthood.” Among the contents of the website is a manifesto, which reads:
WE BELIEVE YOUR BODY IS YOUR OWN. IF IT IS NOT, YOU CANNOT BE TRULY FREE OR EQUAL. WE INSIST ON THE BASIC RIGHT TO LIVE FULL, HEALTHY LIVES, MAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS, AND RECEIVE THE CARE WE NEED, WHEN WE NEED IT.
WE ARE BUILDING A WORLD WHERE EVERYONE HAS THE FREEDOM AND OPPORTUNITY TO CONTROL THEIR OWN BODIES AND THEIR OWN FUTURES—REGARDLESS OF RACE, GENDER, INCOME, ZIP CODE, OR IMMIGRATION STATUS.
TOGETHER, WE ARE A MOVEMENT AND WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE.
This concept of controlling your own body in order to be free, while always present in Planned Parenthood philosophies, has risen to the forefront since Dawn Laguens has taken the lead role as the public face of Planned Parenthood. Perhaps she should understand true freedom as pointed out by Pope John Paul II in 1995, when he said “Every generation of Americans needs to know that freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.”

Action Item of the Week – Get ready for September 8
MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW
The 6th Annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children will take place this year on Saturday, September 8.
This is an event where pro-lifers across the country are encouraged to remember the victims of abortion. We do that by holding memorial services at places where aborted babies are buried. We also hold services at places where memorial markers have been erected.
The first National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was held in September 2013 on the 25th anniversary of the solemn burial of the earthly remains of some 1500 abortion victims in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Over 100 memorial services were held across the United States, and it was clear this should become an annual event.
This year, hundreds of memorial services will take place at the gravesites where aborted babies are buried at the numerous memorial markers erected in their honor, Saturday, September 8.
And leaders are needed! You are needed to organize one of these services! Go to www.abortionmemorials.com. Click on “Memorial Locations” and scroll down to your state and see the list of graves and memorial markers—then sign up to be a leader at the “Host a Memorial in Your Town”.
Why Organize a Memorial Service and Why Attend a Memorial Service?
1) These ceremonies ARE ALL the Aborted Unborn will ever receive in this World.
2) This is a beautiful and effective way to provide that much-needed public witness to the Sanctity of Life.
3) The National Day of Remembrance helps pro-lifers re-commit themselves to the Cause of Life.
Pro-lifers are also encouraged to carry on the spiritual mission of the Day of Remembrance throughout the year by visiting a gravesite of aborted children or other memorial site to offer prayers of mourning for the victims of abortion. Find the site nearest you here.
