Pro-Life This Week – July 31, 2020

Week in Review – Planned Parenthood staggering while the White House deals with international and domestic matters

This week, we saw the continued fallout from Planned Parenthood’s decision to walk away from Margaret Sanger. FOX News did an excellent job getting the reactions of Black pro-lifers. Here are just a few of the remarks in its news storyfrom this past weekend:

  • “For me, this was kind of like changing the name of Auschwitz,” said Roland Warren, the CEO of Care Net.
  • Christina Bennett, an anti-abortion speaker, likened PP’s move to an organization removing a slave owner’s name while their employees participate in human trafficking.
  • “This blatant game of ‘genocide-lite’ by Planned Parenthood is both deeply troubling and false-hearted,” said Angela Stanton-King. . . . Their solution to this truth is to erase her name off of a building to ‘erase’ generations of harm. Margaret Sanger historically wanted to do harm to people and populations of color. Her original fundamentals remain intact and endemic to this day.”

The week also saw additional Planned Parenthood affiliates condemning Margaret Sanger:

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest: “We will dismantle systems of privilege and oppression within Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. This includes addressing the history of racism in sexual and reproductive health care and Planned Parenthood’s past.”

Planned Parenthood North Central States: “Our founder, Margaret Sanger, perpetuated a number of problematic beliefs and actions. We want to be very clear that we vehemently denounce her ideology that certain people — specifically people of color, people with low incomes, and people with disabilities — should be prevented from having children … Sanger’s promotion of eugenics was egregious and wrong. While we acknowledge the benefits that we have reaped from her advocacy for birth control, we take responsibility for the damage that was done. She willfully ignored the incredible harm that her beliefs caused, especially to people of color, people with disabilities, and people with low incomes. We condemn that behavior.”

Virginia League of Planned Parenthood: “We also acknowledge our past and our present participation in white supremacy and are committed to stopping, learning, growing and living our values through the hard and uncomfortable work of progress. As we mourn, we are also forced to take a look at ourselves and to reckon with change.”

On the international scene, our friends at C-Fam report this week that “There is an ongoing fight in the U.S. Congress about the implementation of something called Women, Peace, and Security. The Democrats insist abortion must be a part of the implementation of this act. The Trump administration opposes such a move. This debate came to the fore at a Congressional hearing last week.” You can read C-Fam’s Lisa Correnti’s report here

This week, Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) introduced the Paycheck Protection Integrity Act. The legislation would require the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates to return funds that they received through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) that is administered by the Small Business Administration (SBA).

The pro-abortion advocates often throw out the false charge that pro-lifers don’t care about children after they are born. This, of course, is far from the truth. This week, First Lady Melania Trump spoke about her efforts concerning born children as well as the administration’s support of her Be Best campaign. She said: “America’s kids need us now more than ever. The disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have had a serious impact on America’s children and those who care for them, from parents and teachers to child welfare workers and foster families. The Trump administration is committed to ensuring that children benefit from the care and support of loving, permanent families, preferably in their own homes whenever possible. We are doing all we can to establish commonsense solutions that best serve our children in the welfare system. As part of my Be Best campaign, I have made foster care a top priority. It remains our generation’s responsibility to help our children overcome the many issues they face today, which may include their social, emotional and physical well-being.” You can read her full statement here.

Action Item of the Week – Election Day is just 95 days from today!

One of the most important things we can do to make the change in the world that God wants us to make is to vote! In this home stretch of the 2020 elections, it’s crucial for each of us to make sure that we are registered to vote, and that our registration is up to date. And that is simple to do.

The domain www.CheckYourVoterRegistration.com takes you to the official site of the National Association of Secretaries of State, where you can look up your state and make sure you’re ready for Election Day. Sometimes our status has to be updated or we may have to re-register if there’s been a change of name, address, or party, or some other circumstance, including data error, which affects our current voter registration status.

If for some reason you are not registered, please be sure to do that right away. Again, there’s a simple way to start the process online: www.Vote.gov. It’s an official website of the government and will lead you to all the info you need.

While some think of all this as primarily “political,” it is actually part of our moral duty to be good stewards of the freedoms God has given us, and to make sure that the manner in which political power is exercised, resources are distributed, and rights are protected is done in such a way that glorifies Him and serves the needs of everyone—born and preborn.

In short, voting is actually part of loving God and neighbor. And it’s a big part of defending the preborn from abortion!

Among other things, in electing the president and the Congress, we’re electing those who decide what judges will be on the Supreme Court and the other federal courts. And the kinds of judges who decide these cases are put in place by people whom you electIt’s as simple as that. Your vote counts.

Who can forget the presidential election of 2000, when George W. Bush won the electoral college race by a mere 537 votes in Florida?! Far more people than that are getting this email right now. To think that an entire presidential race, or the balance of power in Congress, can depend on you is really not out of the question. Remember, polling consistently shows that voters motivated by abortion vote pro-life much more than they vote pro-abortion. In other words, it’s a winning issue that has enough influence among our fellow citizens to change the outcome of elections!

So let’s go forward with courage, clarity and confidence as pro-life people who are committed to electing public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public!

Your first step, this weekend, is to MAKE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE!
