Week in Review – South Carolina victory, California shenanigans, and a Pro-Life Hero
During this year’s primary campaign in South Carolina, Governor Henry McMaster pledged that, if reelected, he would end all funding to Planned Parenthood in the state. After he won the primary, the SC House removed Planned Parenthood funding from the budget. Unfortunately, the SC Senate put the money back in. Planned Parenthood gets about $80,000 in state funds which is part of a $2.2 million Family Planning line item in the budget.
Following the state senate’s action, pro-aborts across the state celebrated. However, McMaster used his line-item veto power to strike down the entire $2.2 million, so Planned Parenthood will get nothing. McMaster explained that the state has submitted to the Trump Administration a request for a Medicaid waiver that would allow South Carolina to withhold any public funds from Planned Parenthood. But the federal government has not, yet, authorized that action so the budget veto was his only way of taking money from Planned Parenthood.
In California, the lawsuit against the Center for Medical Progress by Planned Parenthood continues to move forward. Planned Parenthood originally claimed that the CMP videos, and other statements, were false because Planned Parenthood never made a profit selling baby body parts. Now, as CMP’s attorneys seek to get detailed financial information from Planned Parenthood in the discovery phase of the lawsuit, Planned Parenthood is changing its tact. Planned Parenthood now claims that any profits it may have made are inconsequential because of its massive annual budget of $1.4 billion. This claim by Planned Parenthood was argued before the judge and a decision should be coming soon. Court watchers believe that the judge just may side with Planned Parenthood on this. The net result, of course, is that American taxpayers give Planned Parenthood over $550 million a year and PP is claiming that, because it’s so rich. Laws that apply to other people don’t apply to it. As comedian Yakov Smirnoff would say, “What a country!”
As the election process heats up, we encourage all pro-lifers to find out where their elected representatives stand on abortion and Planned Parenthood. One of the best sources of this information is a Planned Parenthood website – the PP 2018 Congressional Scorecard. Planned Parenthood rates every member of congress. A 100% rating means the politician supports Planned Parenthood all the time. A 0% rating means the politician never supports Planned Parenthood. There is a lot of valuable information there.
Finally this week, we call your attention to a California pro-lifer, Mark Allen Rademaker, 61, who is an outspoken opponent of Santa Maria’s Planned Parenthood facility. A recent article in the Santa Maria Times revealed that Mark was convicted of several misdemeanor charges in relation to his activities outside Planned Parenthood and will be serving jail time. Please pray for this pro-life hero as he is willing to be incarcerated rather than allowing the babies to be killed with no one speaking for them at the abortion mill.

Pro-life Social Media – This priest’s Tweet about Snapchat went viral
Last week, Fr. Dan Beeman, pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk, Virginia, sent out the following Tweet:
Dear Parents: Get Snapchat off of your kids’ phones. Now. Don’t ask. Just do it. Let them hate you. That will pass.
Love, a priest who hears their sins.
— Father Dan Beeman (@inthelineofmel) July 21, 2018
If you have or know a teenager who has a Smartphone, then there’s a 99% chance he has Snapchat. Yes, it’s that popular with young people. Snapchat’s main feature is sending private pictures and messages that last for a moment before they’re automatically deleted. And therein lies its dark side.
These are the extreme reports that make the news. Imagine what a priest hears—from good Catholic kids.
The fact that a Catholic priest is sending out this warning should be a wake-up call to parents. He’s hearing the confessions of practicingCatholic teenagers answering the grace of a good confession! Fr. Beeman’s message has been retweeted 3500 times and earned over 8000 “likes.” It made enough of an impact to inspire this writer to say, “Dear Parents, Don’t Be Idiots.”
