Pro-Life This Week – July 13, 2018

Week in Review – Goals of pro-life movement

It’s been just four days since President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. The reaction among the conservative and pro-life movements has been generally positive. Questions have been raised, however, about exactly how he will vote if confirmed to the Court. It is noted that Kavanaugh, like Justice Gorsuch who was confirmed last year, once clerked for retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Those with concerns wonder how much of an influence Kennedy had on Kavanaugh’s judicial outlook. You will remember that Kennedy took the wrong side in many pivotal decisions handed down by the Supreme Court during his 20 years as a justice.

Even more concerning is the unwarranted focus on Roe v. Wade in the discussions of confirmation. Pro-aborts are claiming that Kavanaugh spells the doom of the Roe decision. Conservatives and pro-lifers are also talking about the nomination in terms of whether or not Roe will be overturned. Groups, like American Life League, are pointing out that the goal of the pro-life movement never was, nor should it be, overturning Roe. To simply do that would just put the decision on abortion in the hands of the states.

The real goals of the pro-life movement are to stop the murder of preborn babies and to change society so that even if abortion were allowed by law, no one would ever have one—recognizing the humanity of every preborn child. Even the Roe decision stated that if the unborn child is recognized as a person, abortion would be a violation of the preborn child’s rights and could not be allowed.

ALL and other groups are calling for this to be the primary goal in 2018 and beyond. Save all the children by having the personhood of the preborn child recognized.

An article in the Wednesday STOPP Report this week demonstrates the effectiveness of peaceful, prayerful activity on the streets in front of Planned Parenthood and in local community action. Those fighting Planned Parenthood in Fort Wayne, Indiana, talked to PP customers entering the PP building, offered real solutions for their problems, educated the organization’s landlord, let real estate people know they didn’t want anyone helping PP find a new location in the city, and had a campaign to convince PP employees to seek other jobs. As a result of all this activity, Planned Parenthood’s customers dropped from 3,000 to 1,500 in the last two years and it was forced to operate on a month-to-month lease. As a result, this week Planned Parenthood closed the Fort Wayne facility and left the city. Praise God.

The abortion industry in America continues to put a major focus on the November elections. It is determined to take control of the US Senate, win a number of governor’s races, and literally spread abortion throughout the United States. The 2018 elections are very important in the fight for the lives of preborn human beings. All those who value the sacredness of every human being need to match or exceed the determination of the other side and ensure preborn babies will be protected in America’s future. The elections are less than four months away.

ALL in the News – American Life League continues to speak out on important topics.

Judie Brown’s article, A Supreme [Court] Challenge, deals, in depth, with the necessity to establish the personhood of the preborn child. .

ALL’s STOPP International published an article on Planned Parenthood’s Rapid Response Corps. It looks at Planned Parenthood’s 2018 political efforts in the state of Florida and names 17 companies financially supporting these efforts, including four banks.

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Deathis a weekly talk radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. It can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time) and is repeated on Saturdays (10 PM) and Mondays (10 PM).

Pro-life Social Media – The Question that Directed a Political Pundit’s Conversion to a Pro-Life Position

Michael Knowles, host of The Michael Knowles Show at conservative site, The Daily Wire, admitted on his Wednesday show that he once held a pro-abortion position while in college. But a discussion about the legality of abortion with a college friend at lunchtime began to change that.

“I wasn’t always pro-life . . . I didn’t always realize how awful abortion was. In fact, I remember vividly having a conversation while I was in college, I was doing a summer fellowship with some bioethicist. And I had a conversation with a female bioethicist at lunch. I said, ‘Oh I think abortion, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. People are worried about it. I don’t know.’ And she said, ‘Oh why’s that, Michael?’ I repeated all of the Freakonomics arguments. ‘Oh, you know… ‘ which are largely bogus anyways. ‘It lowers crime, and it’s this, and they’re not morally significant  . . . blah, blah blah.’ And she said, ‘Oh ok, so which of those arguments doesn’t also apply to kill ethnic minorities in the inner cities? Young male ethnic minorities? They commit crime. They’re disproportionately on welfare. Shouldn’t we just kill them?’ I thought, oh well, yikes . . . okay.”

Video of the Week – Watch as big brother Kent meets little brother for the first time

From Youtube user Kent & Noah:

In March of 2017 We welcomed our Sweet Noah! My Grandson Kent, who is 4 yrs. old and also has Down Syndrome, had been waiting so long for this moment, so excited to meet his Little Brother! Kent is going to be the best big brother. He is the most loving boy in the world. He really loves everyone…. whenever he enters or leaves a room he has to hug everyone in it 🙂 Although Kent is pretty much still nonverbal, he is trying and knows a little sign language, He is very smart and understands so much it blows me away. I can’t wait to see the bond my Beautiful Grandsons develop. I’m sure they will truly be best friends. Kent’s reaction to seeing his little brother for the first time is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in my entire life…. just priceless! True Love! As you can imagine Kent has a million friends who love him and …. he’s very social too! A cute little side note…. Kent can say a few words and the one most used is “Yeah!” He agrees with everything and everyone lol. Their Parents have quite a Love Story as well! My Beautiful Family~ In the words of a friend “God gave you all that little cutie for a reason. This, I’m certain, is just the beginning of the lives and hearts he will touch with love and kindness throughout his life. God has truly sent an angel to us all. We now have 2 Angels! Noah & Kent

Action Item of the Week – Getting ready for the November elections

Every week, American Life League’s Pro-Life This Weeke-newsletter brings you news on what is going on and gives you ideas of what you can do to make sure good people are put into office.

In many of our publications, we stress that pro-lifers must combine prayer and action. It is not one or the other—both of these elements must be present.

This week, we want to pause in our call asking you to take action to get ready for the November elections and to emphasize that we must also pray. In seeking an appropriate prayer, we found this on on the website of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.

We ask you to say this prayer every day between now and the elections in November. If we are to succeed in changing our country, we must continually call on God for help.

Prayer Before an Election

Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community.

We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.

We ask for ears that will hear the cries of

  • Children unborn and those abandoned,
  • Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender.
  • We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to Your Kingdom.

We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear Your Word, live Your love,
and keep in the ways of Your truth as they follow in the steps of Jesus and His Apostles
and guide us to Your Kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
