"The battle brewing over the abortion ban in South Dakota right now is truly a fight between life and death," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League. "It is tragic that opponents of the law say the measure is too 'extreme.' That is the farthest thing from the truth. Extremism is exactly what this law is trying to defeat: the killing of innocent children through abortion."
On November 7, South Dakota voters will have the opportunity to uphold the recently passed Women's Health and Human Life Protection Act (HB 1215), which bans all medical and surgical abortions in the state. This piece of legislation has the potential to directly confront ? and even overturn ? the tragic Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that imposed abortion on all 50 states.
"HB 1215 is by far one of the most principled pro-life laws this nation has ever seen," said Sedlak. "Not only will this ban save countless preborn children in South Dakota, but it will certainly set a strong pro-life precedent nationwide." Sedlak noted that more than 3,000 innocent babies are dying every day in the United States through surgical abortion alone and countless more die through medical abortion.
"It is beyond maddening to hear anyone say that the law is too 'extreme' or that it isn't the 'right time' to take such an action" said Sedlak. "How many more children must die before we recognize abortion for what it really is: the wholesale destruction of innocent human beings' lives?"
Sedlak said there's no question that the time to act is now. "Forget all of the rhetoric swirling around this campaign and look at the facts. This law is about protecting innocent human babies. These babies are more than just issues in a political debate. These are children who deserve the chance at life and it is up to all of us to ensure that happens."
