Senate Fails to Defund Planned Parenthood

Washington, DC — Reacting to last night’s failure of the Senate to defund Planned Parenthood, Jim Sedlak, executive director of American Life League, issued the following statement:

The American people have made it abundantly clear that we do not want any of our taxpayer money going to Planned Parenthood Federation of America or any of its affiliates or centers. Last night the United States Senate refused to pass a bill that would have taken about $400 million away from Planned Parenthood for the next year.

It is an outrage that this organization that exposes millions of our children to perverted sexual instruction and kills 328,000 babies through surgical and medical abortion each year should receive even one penny in taxpayer money. The US House of Representatives has responded to the will of the people by passing legislation to stop taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood several times over the last few years. However, the Senate, which is more of a political animal than a representative of those who elected its members, cannot curtail the funds.

We ask both the House and the Senate to put politics aside and pass a simple bill to take all taxpayer money away from Planned Parenthood. They could do it on a straight up-or-down vote. If they are listening to their constituents instead of Planned Parenthood lobbyists, they should easily pass this legislation through both houses with greater than 80 percent support.
