WASHINGTON, D.C. (18 July 2008) – One month after American Life League's Protest the Pill Day, pro-abortion activists are in a panic as the Department of Health and Human Services considers a plan that would not only protect pro-life medical workers from discrimination, but also recognize abortion to include the birth control pill.
In the wake of yesterday's historic news, pro-life leaders and pro-abortion politicians are both considering the ramifications of such a federal plan.
"This move could redefine the abortion war," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "For years, many in the pro-life movement have been afraid to tackle the birth control pill, but we can't ignore it any longer – the birth control pill often means the death of a preborn child."
Besides protecting pro-life medical workers and recognizing abortion to include abortifacient birth control, the regulation could have far-reaching effects for Title X funding, which allows Planned Parenthood to buy contraceptives at discounted prices using your tax dollars.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America set up a special page on their site, imploring supporters to oppose the new regulation. According to the PPFA web site, "The rule would also require … Planned Parenthood, to certify that we will not refuse to hire nurses and other providers who object to abortion and even certain types of birth control."
"We're seeing the pro-abortionists squirm because they know," said Brown, "If the American people recognize the personhood of the preborn child from creation on, their big money business of selling death at discount prices will be over."
American Life League was co-founded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.
