American Life League is leading a candlelight vigil outside the U.S. Supreme Court building at 7:30 p.m. on October 3. Local groups are being encouraged to plan similar events in their own communities, and nationwide participation is expected. ALL's youth outreach team, for instance, is networking with a number of college pro-life groups that are planning candlelight vigils on campus on Pro-life Memorial Day.
American Life League is also circulating a petition urging President Bush to designate the first Monday of every October – the day the Supreme Court begins a new session – as National Pro-life Memorial Day. The petition is available on the special web site dedicated to the day, www.ProLifeMemorialDay.com.
"We must pray and act every day for an end to abortion in this country and beyond," said Brown. "Pro-Life Memorial Day is an excellent time to remind us to do just that." The commemoration has the backing of the Catholic bishops of Buffalo, Santa Fe and Wilmington, as well as Rev. Jerry Falwell and other pro-life and pro-family leaders.
American Life League is providing an official T-shirt for Pro-life Memorial Day. Ordering information is available online at www.ProLifeMemorialDay.com. Deadline for ordering shirts to guarantee arrival in time for the event is September 25.
