Planned Parenthood Requests $4.6 billion from Obama Administration

Washington, D.C. (19 December 2008) – President-elect Barack Obama's transition team has published a 55-page wish list from Planned Parenthood and over 50 other pro-abortion groups with a $4.6 billion price tag.

The document "Advancing Reproductive Rights and Health in a New Administration," outlines the pro-abortion movement's demands from the Obama presidency in the first 100 days of his administration and beyond. First among their priorities is passing the Freedom of Choice and Prevention First Acts.

"Planned Parenthood wants the unfettered ability to commit whatever abortions it wants and at taxpayer expense, as far as possible," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League. "Especially in this time of economic hardship, it is particularly galling that Planned Parenthood would seek to further fatten its coffers at the expense of the American public."

Among the most disturbing items in the document, the organization wants all restrictions taken away from taxpayer funding for abortion and is looking for the repeal of the Weldon Amendment which would allow both federal and state government agencies to refuse to give funds to a doctor or organization if that organization refused to commit or refer for abortions.

The groups also want President-elect Obama's comprehensive health care reform package to include unfettered access to abortions.

"It is clear that Planned Parenthood's demand that health care plans provide 'abortion care' would result in the deaths of many more babies," Sedlak said, "and would provide additional millions of dollars of income to Planned Parenthood which already performs 24 percent of all abortion in the United States."

The document includes $700 million in Title X funding, $900 million in international "family planning" funds and millions more in sex education and STD program funding.

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
