Osama bin Laden is killed by U.S. special forces in a suburban compound not far from Pakistan’s capital. Meanwhile, across the world, Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels announced that he will sign an abortion bill that cuts off all state funding for Planned Parenthood and gives Indiana some of the strictest abortion laws in the country. Planned Parenthood and other abortion advocates predictably called the move an attack on women’s health and vowed to sue to overturn the legislation.
“It is ironic that while the nation rightly celebrates finally bringing Osama bin Laden to justice for killing thousands of innocents, Planned Parenthood vows to fight on for the right to kill hundreds of thousands of innocents in the womb,” said Paul Rondeau, director of communications at American Life League. “The three percent abortion rate claimed by Planned Parenthood is just lying with statistics. Its own Fact Sheet shows that Planned Parenthood performs abortions on one in ten of all patients and 98 percent of its pregnant patients. That is not serving the poor disadvantaged; that is taking advantage of the poor.”
During the recent budget battle, Planned Parenthood spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a public relations campaign portraying itself as a vital health services provider. Its president, Cecile Richards, repeatedly stated that abortion is only three percent of the “medical services” it provides. Planned Parenthood’s latest annual “Fact Sheet” states: “In 2009, we provided nearly 11.4 million medical services for three million people.” ALL says this statistic was used as public relations spin to make the record setting 332,278 abortions comitted appear as “only three percent” of services.
