The retirement of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor provides a tremendous opportunity for President Bush to keep his word to those who elected him and demonstrate the pro-life position he professes.
President Bush's re-election was made possible in large part by pro-life Americans. It is clear that they would feel betrayed if he nominates a so-called 'moderate' to the U.S. Supreme Court. After all, one can be moderate on some political issues, but there's no such thing as moderation when discussing abortion. Abortion is not a political issue. We are talking about life and death for our fellow human beings.
The pro-life community must speak up now to ensure that the president keeps his promises. This is a most pivotal time in American history that offers much hope and opportunity for the future. By nominating a strong, 100% pro-life justice to sit on the nation's highest court, President Bush can truly help to build a culture of life in American society and beyond.
American Life League respectfully implores President Bush to stand on his professed convictions and nominate an individual who will hold a strict interpretation of constitutional law, inasmuch as the U.S. Constitution requires authentic justice. The Constitution calls for the protection of all human persons, not their destruction through abortion.
