Judie Brown, president of American Life League, issued the following statement in response to news that State Rep. Dan Ruby (R-Minot) has proposed a bill that will ban all abortions in the state of North Dakota:
Several courageous legislators in North Dakota certainly understand the urgency of ending abortion in this country. These men and women understand that since the decriminalization of abortion in 1973, more than 43 million babies have been brutally killed through surgical abortions, and countless more through chemical abortions. Clearly with the proposal of this bill to ban all abortions, these lawmakers understand that it is well past time for this atrocity to stop.
American Life League is a 100% pro-life organization – without exceptions. Because of this fact, we are pleased to note that North Dakota House Bill 1227 will ban all abortions in the state and prosecute any person that intentionally takes the life of an innocent preborn human being. The bill clearly represents the rights of the preborn child and is therefore solid legislation.
Some supposed pro-life groups in North Dakota have erroneously chosen to oppose this bill. These groups claim that the measure will surely be overturned by the Supreme Court and will therefore create more legal precedence in favor of Roe v. Wade. This argument is preposterous and is a slap in the face to the pro-life movement. Regardless of the final outcome of the bill, we must always encourage consideration of 100% pro-life legislation that is intended to bring about an end to the heinous act of abortion. To not do so is a crime.
It is time to put politics aside and to protect the innocent babies lost to abortion by the thousands every day. All people, groups, churches and the like that believe that life is a gift from God that should be respected must come together at this time. No group that claims to be pro-life could ever, in good conscience, oppose any effort to outlaw abortion.
