“Pro-life Memorial Day is a time for people across the nation to remember the 48 million preborn children killed by surgical abortion since 1973,” said Erik Whittington, American Life League's youth outreach director. “That’s why I’ll be joining the students at Liberty University for a special commemoration on October 1.”
October 1 will mark American Life League’s third annual Pro-life Memorial Day. The day is chosen because it is the first Monday in October, the day the U.S. Supreme Court begins its annual session. It was the Supreme Court that decriminalized abortion in a pair of 1973 rulings.
“It’s incredible how the college is coming together as a community to commemorate the tragedy of abortion,” said Whittington.
Amanda Baker, a student at the college, said, “Liberty University has provided an amazing opportunity for me and my fellow students to acknowledge and mourn the American Holocaust. Abortion has robbed my generation of babies who would've had the potential to grow up and make a difference, and I think it is only fitting for us to remember them and be encouraged to make a difference by standing up for those who have no voice.”
The event will begin at 7:30 PM in the University School of Law’s Supreme Courtroom. Speakers have been scheduled at five minute intervals for prayers, reflections, and scripture readings. While the event is scheduled to close by 11:00 PM, students are encouraged to come in at any time and remain for as long as they wish.
