Judie Brown, president and cofounder of American Life League, issued a public statement regarding the most recent announcement from Boston’s St. Cecelia’s Church that the archdiocese of Boston had given permission to reschedule a Mass intended to celebrate LGBT pride.
“Even with the deliberate parsing of words, it is clear to the faithful and the public that this Mass is intended as an affirmation of homosexual activity. St. Cecelia’s own church bulletin confirmed this as true: “a Mass in celebration of Boston’s Pride Month.”
To allow the holy Mass and Catholic teaching to be subverted in this way demonstrates a heretical failure of Catholic leadership in the Boston archdiocese. The grievous impression created in the Boston archdiocese that the Roman Catholic Church supports pride in sinful sexual behavior must be rectified.
American Life League calls on Cardinal O’Malley to make clear to the parish leadership, the homosexual group Rainbow Ministry of Saint Cecelia Parish, and the public that homosexual inclination is “objectively disordered” and that based on Sacred Scripture, under no circumstances can homosexual acts be approved.
Catholics welcome, and are, sinners of every stripe and nature. We affirm that Jesus died for all sinners. However, affirming the homosexual lifestyle betrays the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the very people the deluded wish to help; it also betrays the family, friends, and hope of those valiantly struggling against same-sex attraction.”
