Catholics for Choice Attacks Pro-Life Catholics & Vatican as ‘Religious Extremists’

Washington, DC—-Recently, David J. Nolan, editor of Conscience, the Catholics for Choice “news journal,” wrote, “Religious extremists . . . have an immoderate, uncompromising approach to politics and, given the chance, they would deny basic rights and require fundamental changes to the way most people want to live.”

Judie Brown, president of American Life League, the oldest Catholic pro-life group in the nation, was on the CFC list of female religious extremists. Brown issued this response:

It would be easy to pity and pray for these people as just wretched misguided creatures. But sadly, their hubris is not just a danger to their own souls. Their intent is to lead others to everlasting death as well, and a Christian cannot ignore that threat. Catholics for Choice may think that its attack is on me and others like me, but its empty arguments are an attack on the Church itself, on life itself, and on the gospel of Christ.

The organization states its frustration in negotiating with the Holy See as “with someone who claims [emphasis added] to be voicing divine will.” This mocks the succession of Peter, a basic tenet of the Catholic faith dating to Christ’s time on Earth.

Nolan also claimed, “Opposition to women’s rights is business as usual for the Holy See at the UN.” This is one more distortion CFC promotes in order to advance the sins of abortion and homosexuality.

In other words, CFC rejects three foundational teachings of the Catholic Church. They praise the culture of death. Why the pretense of its members calling themselves Catholics?

CFC claims that I am an extremist because I oppose “anybody, any law, any language, or any argument that supports a single abortion for any reason.” I plead guilty: I am immoderate and uncompromising—-not in my approach to politics, but in fidelity to the truth.

Jesus Christ Himself said, “If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). Here, these so-called Catholics even deny Christ’s own words: Following Him does “require fundamental changes to the way most people want to live.”

This is Catholics for Choice’s gravest error: Its members forget that God is not made in our image, but we in His.
