American Life League Statement on Defeat of Mississippi Personhood Amendment

(Stafford, VA) — The following statement was issued by Judie Brown, president of American Life League:

The results of the election in Mississippi are now clear. We are saddened that the good citizens of this fine state have rejected efforts to grant basic human rights to preborn human beings.

We offer our congratulations to all in Mississippi who fought for so long and so hard to save the lives of preborn human beings in the state through this proposed amendment. Although the numbers were not there this time, God knows the energy you put into the battle and he knows that you will continue this struggle until it is finished triumphantly. May God bless you all for all the education you have done. Your efforts have hastened the day of ultimate victory.

In the last few weeks we have had the occasion to talk with ordinary people in the state and it is clear that those who would deny the humanity of the preborn child were able to sow fear and confusion among groups of people who would, in ordinary circumstances, be natural supporters of this effort. In the end, anti-human rights lies and obfuscations were just too numerous to overcome.

American Life League remains committed, as we have been since our beginning in 1979, to gaining recognition in the law of human rights for all preborn human beings. We will take time to evaluate and learn from the Mississippi experience and vow to be back in 2012 supporting initiatives in one or more states that will grant these civil and human rights to all preborn human beings from their biological beginning forward.

We view Mississippi as a learning experience in an effort that will ultimately be successful – because it is right.
