American Life League Pleads with New Jersey’s Catholic Bishops

For Immediate Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. (07 January 2020) – American Life League president Judie Brown issued the following statement today calling on action from all New Jersey bishops:

New Jersey’s governor, sham Catholic Phil Murphy, has repeatedly offended Christ in the Eucharist by his anti-life tactics and statements.

Murphy is a disgrace to the Catholic Church. Thus, today we are calling on the bishops of that state to join together in a statement decrying Murphy’s public proclamations in support of assisted suicide and abortion. We are further asking the bishops to clarify for Murphy that, in accord with Church law, Canon 915 specifically, he may not receive the sacrament of Holy Eucharist until such time as he publicly repents of his support for deadly measures such as assisted suicide and abortion.

To be clear, the law of the Catholic Church, Canon 915, provides no wriggle room for sham Catholics like Murphy. It states in part: “Those . . . obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

We pray that the Catholic bishops of New Jersey will make it clear to Murphy that he has no choice other than comply with Church law. This will send a clear message to the governor and other pro-death Catholics that Church law is designed to help the errant seek the forgiveness of Christ and heal their souls before God and those individuals they have led astray.

American Life League is the nation’s oldest grassroots, Catholic, pro-life organization. Its president, Judie Brown, has led the organization since its 1979 beginning. She has served three terms on the Pontifical Academy for Life—appointed twice by Pope John Paul II and again by Pope Benedict XVI.
