WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 5, 2008) – Judie Brown, president of American Life League, reacted to news of a California teacher being placed on administrative leave for showing a pro-life video in class. According to the Associated Press, Randy Yang was placed on paid leave the day after he showed clips from the classic pro-life film The Silent Scream.
“The Silent Scream depicts an ultrasound image of an actual abortion occurring in the womb. In the ultrasound, the preborn child appears to scream before she dies,” said Judie Brown. “Clearly the decision to place Yang on paid leave was political and one has to wonder how deeply the Milpitas Unified School District is steeped in the culture of death philosophy.”
When asked about whether the video was appropriate for eighth-grade students, Brown responded, “Why is this so shocking as to result in the imposed leave of a teacher? Children in the eighth grade can watch violence on the evening news, but they are somehow not mature enough to see a factual presentation of a child being aborted?”
Addressing the charge by AP that The Silent Scream is “graphic,” Brown concluded, “The Silent Scream is not graphic. The Silent Scream is a documentary on the violence of abortion. We are very sorry to hear that Mr. Yang has chosen to leave his teaching position. Teaching the truth should not be a cause of termination in any school district. Obviously, Milpitas Unified School District officials are totally opposed to telling the truth about what abortion does to a fellow human being.”
American Life League was co-founded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and it is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.
