(January 19, 2022 – Fredericksburg, Virginia) As the annual March for Life kicks off in Washington, DC, on January 21, 2022, the American Life League calls upon the pro-life movement to quit compromising. The late Nellie Gray, founder of the March, agreed with American Life League’s zero tolerance approach to abortion; in fact she inspired us to take the position.

During a 1993 interview Gray explained, “If you live with evil long enough…it’s the old, old thing.  First you sort of resist it. Then you don’t quite resist it anymore. Then you tolerate it a little then you live side-by-side with it. Then somehow or another you kind of accept it. This is exactly the incremental approach – if you accept a few exceptions and a little bit of abortion…then you’re going to sit down beside it … And unfortunately, after 20 years now, these exception clauses…that’s what we have.”

Now, it’s been almost 50 years, and Dwain Currier, American Life League Public Policy Director, notes that instead of the twenty million children dead that Gray mourned, there have been more than 62 million babies killed by abortion.

Throughout the year, life advocates support “heartbeat” legislation, late-term abortion bans, required waiting periods, and restrictions of taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. The American Life League looks at these collective efforts and says that pro-life supporters, in general, have it all wrong.

Currier understands that efforts by pro-life organizations and individuals are well-intentioned but believes that most of these endeavors are chasing the wrong goal.

“Heartbeat bills don’t work,” states Currier. “Bans on abortion after a certain period of gestation or milestone in development mask the fact that abortion takes a human life. They do not end the violence against the preborn.”

American Life League’s “no exceptions” policy is strongly rooted in the understanding that abortion takes the life of a preborn child. Currier and his American Life League colleagues assert that exceptions – for rape, incest, or any other reason – result in lost lives. Such exceptions are exclusions that result in death, they represent the evil Gray spoke about years ago.

As pro-life advocates from across the United States converge on Washington, DC, to March for Life on January 21, 2022, they will decry abortion and mark the 49th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion on demand. The American Life League will be marching to the beat of a different drummer. While others fight for abortion restrictions and demand protections for viable babies, Currier and his colleagues will be calling for an end to all abortions, without exception.

Summing up the American Life League “no exceptions” philosophy, Currier stated, “Exceptions break the rules as set by God; exceptions kill people. They are unacceptable under any circumstance.”

“If we really want to end the killing,” asserts Currier, “we need to end all of it.”
