As Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) prepares to be
sworn in as the new Speaker of the House in Washington D.C., American Life League is imploring three key archbishops to tackle the scandal created by pro-abortion Catholic politicians by preventing Pelosi from using the Catholic Church as a pawn in her political game.
"It is unconscionable for Rep. Pelosi to claim that the Catholic faith is an important part of her life while she relentlessly, categorically denies the teachings of the Church by supporting the killing of children through abortion," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "To add insult to injury, Pelosi is using the Catholic faith in an attempt to soften the rough exterior created by her continued support of abortion on demand."
In response to Pelosi's scheduled stops at Catholic churches in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. during her "celebration tour," American Life League is featuring a full-page ad in the Washington Times that directly addresses the scandal created by openly pro-abortion Catholics such as Pelosi. "Today's ad asks the archbishops of Washington and Baltimore to intervene in Rep. Pelosi's plans and prevent her from receiving honors at Catholic churches and institutions because of her pro-abortion stance," said Brown. "The ad also asks the archbishop of San Francisco, which Pelosi represents in Congress, to be aware of all of this. The simple truth remains that you can't be Catholic and pro-abortion."
The ad references Canon 915 of the Catholic church's Code of Canon Law, which states, "Those who…obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Communion." While recognizing that the bishops cannot change civil law that permits abortion on demand, Mrs. Brown said "they can stop the grave scandal created by those Catholics who publicly condone the daily killing of 3,300 babies in the womb and then turn around and receive Holy Communion."
