Buzzfeed’s Ridiculous Abortion List

Buzzfeed, the pro-abortion website forever synonymous with fake news, produced another dumb list of things for naïve readers to share when they aren’t sharing “24 Cats Who Are Celebrating Shark Week” or “17 Foods That White People Have Ruined.”

41 Things You Should Know about Abortions and the Doctors Who Perform Them” is another attempt at destigmatizing abortion. “41 Things You Should Know about Decapitating Preborn Children” would probably add to the stigma, so Buzzfeed editors came up with the longer title. The list is derived from quotes by people whom Buzzfeed failed to name as “11 People Who Decapitate Preborn Children for a Living.”

Several of these things aren’t completely false because they’re mere observations of current events. Thus, here is a partial list of the 41:

1. Abortions are just one part of the job.

True. Many abortionists are known to deliver babies if they’re not killing them before and during birth.

2. Abortion providers don’t feel like they’re on the fringes of the medical community.

It’s why they do the other parts of the job. Abortionist isn’t a title OB-GYNs are keen on having, so they supplement it with legitimate woman-care, kind of like the way Planned Parenthood minimizes abortion as “only 3% of services.”

3. Most pursued training in abortion care because they wanted to help women.

This is commonly known as the moral dilemma, whereby an abortionist falsely believes the ends justifying the means.

4. Patients should expect to be treated with kindness and compassion.

They certainly shouldn’t expect to get slapped in the face.

5. They don’t see their role as judging you or your decision.

But they will remind mothers, sometimes, of why they’re there.

6. Legal abortions are safe and do not affect future pregnancies.

Not according to these studies:

Dr. Pim Ankum of the Academic Medical Centre of the University of Amsterdam analyzed 21 studies covering nearly two million women. She found that curettage abortions increase the risk of a subsequent premature birth (under 37 weeks) by 29 percent, and the risk of very premature birth (under 32 weeks) by 69 percent.

Rooney and Calhoun, M.D. found 49 studies demonstrating “a statistically significant increase in premature births.”

7. Childbirth is riskier than an early (legal) abortion.

This comparison is ridiculous because it can’t be proven or disproved. The data doesn’t exist. Not only is abortion reporting NOT mandated in all 50 states, but when abortion results in serious complications or death, “resulting from an induced abortion” isn’t added to official records. Think of someone dying from a blow to the head. Medical records might describe a subdural hematoma, but it won’t describe the swinging of a sledgehammer by the murderer.

8. The vast majority of abortions occur in the first trimester.

True.

9. The phrase “partial-birth abortion” isn’t actually a medical term used to describe abortions.

So what? That doesn’t negate its existence.

10. Surgical abortions aren’t technically surgeries.

Neither are ultrasounds, but radical feminists love complaining about them as burdens to “a woman’s right to choose.”

11. They want people to understand what actually happens during an abortion.

To say “actually happens” is laughable. Abortionists don’t describe the process of decapitation and dismemberment of the preborn child. They’ll soften the gore with phrases like “products of conception,” “terminating the pregnancy,” and “heart tones.”

12. How a patient feels after the procedure varies from person to person.

True. In fact, it’s not uncommon for mothers to regret having one, either. But Buzzfeed doesn’t want to cover those stories.

13. They don’t see their job as convincing anyone to have an abortion.

Then why set quotas?

14. They want to make certain that a patient is 100 percent sure of her decision and that she made it on her own.

How would any abortionist know a mother is “100 percent sure”? Abusive boyfriends and angry parents provide an environment of coercion. A mother knows 100 percent why she’s getting an abortion. That doesn’t translate to being 100 percent sure she wants one.

15. They don’t all work at Planned Parenthood.

True. But Planned Parenthood wouldn’t mind it if all abortionists did someday.

22. You probably know someone who’s had an abortion.

And we’ve met plenty of them who wish they hadn’t.

26. Talking about abortion can help destigmatize it, but not every woman wants to talk about her abortion—and that’s okay.

Buzzfeed provides two contradictory quotes from opposing abortionists. One says keeping silent about abortion experiences contributes to stigma. The other says it’s okay if post-abortive mothers don’t share their stories because “there is no way to destigmatize abortion.” Okay, then. Why? What is it about abortion that an abortionist says it can’t be destigmatized?

29. The protesters outside the clinics don’t make women change their minds; they just make them feel more guilt and self-blame.

So these 437 mothers who changed their minds during the last 40 Days for Life campaign did so for what reason? And do they feel more guilt and self-blame for not killing their children?

30. Abortions are not federally funded.

Not true. The Hyde Amendment specifies that federal funds can be used to pay for abortion in cases of rape and incest.

35. They think the concept that people will use abortions as birth control is pretty ridiculous.

The Guttmacher Institute reports in 2008 that 51 percent of abortion patients were using a contraceptive method in the month they became pregnant. In other words, these women are having abortions because their birth control failed. Abortion is the back up. How is that not abortion-as-birth-control?

37. It’s not as simple as being either pro-abortion rights or anti-abortion rights; there’s a huge gray area in the middle.

The gray area has a name. It’s called moral relativism.

38. In their eyes, the best way to decrease the abortion rate is to increase access to effective, reliable contraception.

Except that in the case of hormonal contraception, you’re sometimes killing embryonic human beings instead of babies in the fetal stage of development. Furthermore, there are cases where increasing availability to birth control increases abortion.

39. Being an abortion provider can be incredibly rewarding, especially in the long-term.

It can also be incredibly rewarding financially, even if you’re not the one doing the slicing and dicing.

40. They are all physicians. But, now, many of them are activists, too.

Which is what makes abortion advocacy so contradictory. Activists want politics out of healthcare decisions, so they go to politicians to enact healthcare mandates. It’s none of the government’s business to know what goes on with the bedroom activities it subsidizes.

41. Abortion won’t stop happening if it becomes illegal.

This isn’t even a logical argument. Criminalizing a behavior doesn’t eradicate it. It does reduce it dramatically, however. Sometimes public policy shapes attitudes as well. The criminalization of abortion would cause people to think about the reasons for it. They’ll be faced with arguments defending the humanity of the preborn child. And with that, will make an informed decision that preborn children are people too.
