In Great Britain a zoo is using birth control for its animal residents because of a deadly outbreak of tuberculosis and because of concerns about overcrowding in the zoo. In Waco, Texas, according to the Waco-Tribune Herald, the executive director from the Animal Birth Control Clinic “said the community spay-neuter effort is the ultimate solution to animal overpopulation, and it is already starting to pay off.”
Great, if one is focused on the animal population, right?
But there are many elites—including government officials, Planned Parenthood executives, and educators—who believe quite strongly that human beings need birth control even more than dogs and cats. Such organizations and individuals in policy-making positions presume that the rest of us are not capable of practicing self-control.
These champions of perversion draw on the twisted philosophy that, since man is nothing more than a two-legged animal, the same sort of compulsion that drives the “spay your pet” crowd should compel them to view humans in the same way. Clearly such icons of hedonism have never given a thought to the idea that, unlike the residents of the animal world, we humans have souls, can discern right from wrong, and are worthy of the title “child of God.”
Illustrations of such thinking abound. The New York Times, for instance, tells us that “women’s progress in America has been inextricably tied to the availability of birth control.” On a website known as NURX we learn that young people can acquire birth control online if they live in California, New York, Washington, D.C., Washington state, Illinois, or several other states. Yet one of the many problems with this is that allowing “adolescents to take hormone-altering drugs without the oversight of a parent or physician” can create physical problems and in fact poses risks to the young, enabling “teen sex in a culture that has disconnected sexual intimacy from healthy relationships.”
Exactly, and there is more. Since when does a female need the pill to succeed in her vocation, whether it is motherhood, becoming a CEO, or competing as an athlete? Some might say such suggestions are an insult to women. I agree!
Human beings are not zoo animals. Neither are we dogs or cats. We are people capable of making decisions that are not only good for us, but that are healthy for our spiritual well-being too. Oh yes, this is a God thing!
Here’s why this must be so. God created every one of us. And He created the human body to be fertile. If God had not wanted us to be fertile, we would not have that capability, so why would anyone want to block that gift for any reason?
The simple fact about contraception is that, “by its very nature, contraceptive intercourse declares that life will be given only when I will it: the ‘Lord, the giver of life’ needs my approval to share the gift of life.” That is the height of human arrogance. Animals cannot make that statement, but each of us can—and sadly, many do. Often parents teach their children by word and deed that life cannot be lived without the pill—or even abortion.
In fact, in Utah where some lawmakers would like to keep “the advocacy or encouragement of the use of contraceptive methods or devices” out of sex education courses, one resident who opposes this wrote: “We can’t stop them from doing that but if we can educate them on the importance of contraceptives, we can cut down even more on unwanted teen pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted disease.”
And there you have it! No longer do many in society even believe that young people and adults are capable of learning the first thing about self-respect and chastity before marriage. The “we can’t stop them” mentality is our way of saying we have lost our ability to teach and live by God’s truth.
And that, my friends, suggests to me that, in many instances, human beings are viewed in the same light as the zoo animal or the family dog.
No wonder Pope Paul VI, in his encyclical Humanae Vitae, proclaimed: “The teaching of the Church regarding the proper regulation of birth is a promulgation of the law of God Himself. . . . Indeed it cannot be observed unless God comes to their help with the grace by which the goodwill of men is sustained and strengthened. But to those who consider this matter diligently it will indeed be evident that this endurance enhances man’s dignity and confers benefits on human society.”
Each human being has the capacity to know God’s law and to live it. Animals “R” not us!

Pray for America.
Teach your children that human dignity and respect for life begin at the beginning and never end regardless of age, health, or condition of dependency.
Expose the lies and learn why organizations like Planned Parenthood should never receive our tax dollars to peddle their ideology.
