Villains, Vultures and ‘Preventive Services’

In the wake of the passage of Obamacare, much has happened that has startled, alarmed and otherwise disquieted the American public. We can now add a new type of poisonous philosophy to the mix, and that is the possibility that “preventive services” will soon include birth control, and even, as some suggest, “implants and IUDs.”

Why, you may ask, is this happening? First of all, we know that the Obama administration, the villain in this equation, has never voiced support for the dignity of the human person from his biological beginning to his death. From the time he was campaigning, Obama was in the loving embrace of Planned Parenthood and its allies.
Then you have Planned Parenthood, the vulture in this mix. It has a vested interest in seeing a new definition of preventive services come into existence. The results of this would fatten its coffers and provide more opportunities to brainwash the public—especially our children.
Politico’s Sarah Kliff exposed the Planned Parenthood campaign, quoting Planned Parenthood’s vice president of public policy, Laurie Rubiner, “We see this as a tremendous opportunity to get no-cost birth control in the bill and ensure that this part of women’s health is covered under preventive health.”
Indeed, Rubiner’s self-serving claim that including birth control in “preventive services” would be a “tremendous opportunity” for Planned Parenthood, but what she fails to tell us is that it is a chance for Planned Parenthood to add thousands, if not millions, of our tax dollars to its coffers since this freebie to the customer would be paid by the health care law.
Many pro-life Americans warned of this problem with the health care proposal early on, but few paid attention, and now the proverbial wolf is at the door. Providing free birth control may, sadly, prevent a life of a child; yet it also causes more promiscuous activity which leads to more cases of sexually transmitted disease and more opportunities for the users to experience stroke, heart attack and even death—not to mention the pill’s potential effect as the silent killer of preborn children. Planned
Parenthood’s vision of including birth control as a component of preventive care is the prevention of a preborn child from coming into existence or, if he does, making sure he does not survive.
Family Research Council’s Jeanne Monahan has pointed out that the proposal is outrageous and nothing more than a back door to abortion.
Further, on behalf of the United States Catholic bishops, general counsel Anthony Picarello penned a letter dated September 17 to the Department of Health and Human Services. In part, the letter points out the obvious: “To prevent pregnancy is not to prevent a disease. … Indeed, contraception and sterilization pose their own unique and serious health risks to the patient.”
The only way for this ludicrous campaign to be stopped is for the voices of thousands of faithful pro-lifers to join the bishops and the Family Research Council in voicing their opposition. Those dedicated to the principles reflected in the natural law and echoed among ethically sound physicians must stand up and speak out now.
