It seems that the annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will not be addressing the enforcement of Canon 915, let alone the failure that resulted in 52 percent of Catholics voting for a totally pro-abortion president!
In a news story published on November 7, we learned that "the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has scuttled plans to discuss abortion and politics next week in Baltimore, according to spokeswoman Sister Mary Ann Walsh."
Why is such a critical question being eliminated from its discussions? Well, Sister Walsh explained, "I think this is something that has evolved since September. Many bishops have already addressed the issue (of pro-abortion rights politicians) through pastoral letters, so there's not the same need they saw in September."
This is almost as unbelievable as the recent statements of Atlanta's Archbishop Wilton Gregory. In case you missed that one, the Times reported that he described Obama's election as "a great step forward for humanity and a sign that in the United States the problem of racial discrimination has been overcome."
This is perhaps one of the most offensive comments I can imagine coming from a Catholic archbishop. Hasn't it occurred to Archbishop Gregory that the election of Obama is synonymous with electing the cultural leader of the pro-abortion political machine? Doesn't the archbishop know that Obama is so dedicated to abortion that he is eager to sign the dreadful Freedom of Choice Act?
As an African-American prelate of the Catholic Church, Archbishop Gregory must surely know that although less than 14 percent of Americans are black, more than 33 percent of the preborn children who are murdered by abortion are black. Thus, we would have expected him to be devastated by the results of this election. It matters not what color Obama's skin is; it does matter that he detests preborn children to the extreme degree that he does.
I now feel strongly that Archbishop Gregory's November 6 comments were a precursor to the USCCB's November 7 announcement that there would be no discussion of abortion and politics – let alone enforcement of Canon 915 – during its annual meeting. To my mind, this is proof positive that the USCCB is disinterested, at every level, in defending Christ from sacrilege, setting a good teaching example for the millions of American Catholics who clearly need it and striving in every way to bring pro-abortion Catholic public figures back into the Church through the grace of repentance. Why else, in the face of the election results, would they choose to set aside the most crucial question ever needing to be contemplated by a conference of Catholic bishops?
The handwriting is on the wall. The USCCB is apparently unconcerned about the fact that more Catholics voted for the abortion-minded Obama than voted according to Catholic teaching. Or perhaps they are satisfied with the result.
I cannot help but think that perhaps this is why Archbishop Gregory said, according to one news report, "If Obama in the White House is like the man on the moon, the same thing can happen at the threshold of St. Peter's."
Oh, my God!
If I could speak with Archbishop Gregory, I would tell him, "Your Excellency, if I may, I would like to point out to you that having Obama in the White House is like having Jack the Ripper on the loose!"
I ask you, dear reader, could it be that Obama's commitment to murdering preborn babies simply isn't of concern to the USCCB?
