The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press and the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life conducted a survey involving 2,003 adults. Some in the pro-life movement have touted the findings as showing a more pro-life America; others like me have serious doubts about that.
Among the findings, we see the following:
- 31% think abortion should be generally available;
- 20% think abortion should be allowed but limited;
- 35% think abortion should be illegal with few exceptions
- 11% think abortion should never be permitted.
If one honestly evaluates these numbers, and realizes that we are talking about the direct killing of a child prior to birth, then the reality is stark and scary, for what those numbers tell me is that less than 12% of 2,003 adults in this nation understand that the act of abortion results in the death of a person.
My friends, that ain't progress!
