Last week the U. S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the consolidated case known as Zubik v. Burwell. Several religious-based nonprofits, including Priests for Life and Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged, together with five additional defendants, argued that Obama’s Affordable Care Act contraceptive mandate creates a substantial burden for them. These groups conscientiously object to being forced to cover birth control materials for their employees and argue that this is precisely what the Obama mandate requires of them.
On C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, NARAL vice president Donna Crane defined the Little Sisters of the Poor as a group of people who does not represent a “religious enterprise” but rather a “social service.” She claims that members of the Little Sisters of the Poor are simply trying to impose their religious views on others!
Among those who favor the contraceptive mandate is Planned Parenthood. According to one report: “In a series of tweets regarding the case, but without explicitly naming the Little Sisters of the Poor, Planned Parenthood lashed out at ‘out-of-touch bosses’ who are ‘suing to get out of basic paperwork.’ They also criticized the notion that the case is about religious freedom.”
The truth is that Planned Parenthood’s protests are as ridiculous as its claim that contraception is safe, reliable, and a healthy alternative to an unwanted pregnancy. That sop seems to get the organization plenty of mileage with the media, but the argument itself is riddled with holes. For instance, Planned Parenthood does not admit that there is a “substantial body of peer-reviewed research that demonstrates that programs designed to improve access to contraceptives—through legalization, distribution, or subsidies—are either ineffective at best or counterproductive at worst.”
Planned Parenthood would be ill-served to share this fact since its bottom line is all about money and not what is best for women.
Furthermore, Planned Parenthood does not admit that there are numerous health risks associated with using a birth control pill. These risks include heart attack, stroke, breast cancer, liver cancer, and more. Agreeing that these risks are concerning would be detrimental for Planned Parenthood’s profit margin. After all, business is business.
Oh yes, and what about those so-called unwanted pregnancies that the pill and other chemicals are supposed to help a female avoid? In reality, quite the opposite is the case. In fact, most contraceptive chemicals kill preborn babies before they have a chance to implant on the wall of their mother’s uterus. The result is abortion—the death of a preborn child.
Planned Parenthood would never speak this truth, as it would lead to the shutting down of its multi-million dollar abortion and contraception business when the public finally realizes that it is nothing but a fraud.
This is why Planned Parenthood has tweeted that those who fight to have their freedom of conscience protected by the Constitution are nothing more than “out of touch bosses.” It is far easier for the abortion behemoth to throw a few stones at those who love truth than to own up to the truth itself.
But when we peel away all the layers of deception propagated by the pro-aborts and their allies and look at the simple facts, we see two things. First, we see that “the Little Sisters are saying this is not about money, but conscience.” Should they be forced to offer services that they find morally objectionable, or should their conscience rights be protected? And second, what the Planned Parenthood bully is really saying is that, even if the organization has to trample over freedom of conscience, religious freedom, and all manner of decency, it will do so. After all, the corporate coffer is priority number one!
So there you have it—a real life example of a classic bully tactic if I ever saw one. We cannot let this bully continue to force its will upon us. Let’s stand up to PP and put an end to its reign of terror.
