The California legislature is debating a bill that would legalize physician assisted suicide. One of the people Associated Press interviewed for their report on the proposal is Joyce George, an in-home care provider who is "an in-home care provider who has worked with seniors for more than 25 years."
George told the media that some Californians might choose to end their life because they can't afford long term care.
She said, "It is a lot cheaper to prescribe a lethal drug to a poor person who needs long-term care."
She followed up by saying that "The health care industry makes major profits, but it's not from the working poor."
And of course, the Catholic governor of the state has suggested that the question needs to go to the voters. Schwarzenegger does well in the role of Pontius Pilate. How sad!
If you live in California, I urge you to get busy working to defeat this cost-effective, kill 'em rather than love 'em bill.
