Astounding as it sounds at first, there is no doubt that outrage over the killing of the innocent no longer exists in America. Examples of this are legion, but I will cite a few that have occurred recently.
During the summer months, the Center for Medical Progress released a series of videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s grisly business dedicated to selling aborted baby body parts to science for money. Finally, Congress held hearings as a result of the undercover video reports. In the fallout that Planned Parenthood feared might quash its millions in taxpayer dollars, PP president Cecile Richards wrote a letter to the National Institutes of Health stating PP would no longer accept reimbursements from researchers procuring the baby body parts.
In other words, the organization admitted guilt.
The bigger problem though is not Richards’ sincerity or lack thereof, but that throughout this process Americans went about their daily lives. And most still, to this day, believe that Planned Parenthood deserves tax dollars. Aborting a child just isn’t a big deal anymore to most of us.
To prove my point, just see if you can find one major news network reporting on the case of a Michigan abortionist and the fallout from a car accident he caused. When the police looked through the car, they discovered 14 plastic containers containing the bodies of aborted babies. The reason the baby bodies were in the car is that the abortionist lost his clinic and was actually doing the abortions in his home. Since then the abortionist’s home has also been searched. Monstrous news, yet the national media is silent and life goes blissfully on in America.
In other news, the notorious “rolling abortionist” was arrested recently in South Carolina. James Pendergraft travels from place to place aborting children; his entire enterprise is illegal. According to Operation Rescue, “At the time of his arrest on October 5, 2015, Pendergraft had in his possession surgical implements that were covered in blood and human tissue from abortions he had illegally performed throughout South Carolina. He was also in the possession of illegal narcotics.”
Finally, the Obama administration, long a fan of abortions at any time for any reason, has made another move to ensure that minority women have equal access to the chemical killing of their preborn children.
The federal Indian Health Service “finalized a policy that makes emergency contraception more accessible to American Indian and Alaska Native women. The written policy released this week requires the morning-after pill to be available to women of any age over the counter at IHS-run facilities, no questions asked.”
Proponents of this effort have described it as nothing more than ensuring equal access to reproductive healthcare for women, but in fact the new policy—like every other federal policy on these chemicals—does not require that the patient be told that the pill can and does abort preborn children. Even Dr. James Trussell, one of the leading promoters of the morning-after pill since its approval by the Food and Drug Administration in 1999, and who coauthored a study in 2013, makes this statement in his findings: “To make an informed choice, women must know that [emergency contraceptive pills] . . . prevent pregnancy primarily by delaying or inhibiting ovulation and inhibiting fertilization, but it is not scientifically possible to definitively rule out that a method may inhibit implantation of a fertilized egg in the endometrium.”
The “fertilized egg” to which the study refers is, of course, a human being whose life began at the biological beginning, not at implantation eight days later as some have suggested. The morning-after pill can kill.
The sad lesson that these recent examples from our newsroom teach us is that most Americans have been lulled into a false understanding that abortion is legal and a woman’s decision, no questions asked.
Pope Francis makes my point, saying, “When the evil spirit succeeds in anesthetizing the conscience, it is then he can claim a true victory, for he has become the master of that conscience.”
The master of evil reigns!
