When I read the story about the British scientists who want to create human-animal embryos I was reminded of the old television series, "Twilight Zone." The report was so ghastly and far fetched that I was positive it had to be science fiction. No, sadly, it is not.
The scientists in questionn want to create "hybrid" embryos and claim that if they can get the stem cells out of these entities, they will perhaps pave the way for revolutionary therapies for diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
It is claimed that since there is a shortage of human eggs, they "need" to do this. I presume this is much like Hitler who "needed" to cleanse the race.
But what this practice actually is, in essence, is the creation of a chimera, an entity composed of genetic parts from diverse organisms. What's interesting about this report, and their lack of the use of the word chimera, is that if you look the word up in your dictionary you will see something absolutely prophetic.
Chimera was a monster in Greek mythology that had a lion's head, a goat's body and a snake's tail. As gruesome as that sounds, the proposed new scientific tactic sounds far worse.
To put it bluntly, this is one of the most outrageous, sinister plots to neuter the meaning of the human person that I have ever come across. It is nothing short of barbaric; but it is also to be expected in this age when man has replaced God with himself.
