Washington, DC (15 April 2010) – The following is a statement from American Life League Vice President Jim Sedlak on news that scientists from the United Kingdom have created “designer embryos” containing DNA from a man and two women. Lead researcher Professor Doug Turnbull said, regarding the creation of a new human being: “What we’ve done is like changing the battery on a laptop.”
“Changing the battery on a laptop?!
“The world cried out in horror in the 20th century when despots experimented on human beings and killed innocent persons. But, where is the outcry now? Is anything tolerated in the name of science? How soon we forget Dr. Mengele.
“We have been saying for years that the progressive scientists and their followers have lost all respect for each individual’s human life; that human beings are being treated like commodities – much as slaves used to be.
“Read the short press account in The Sun to see exactly how these human beings were manufactured like a state-of-the-art computer and destroyed.
‘First, the nuclei were put into one of the fertilized eggs left over after other women had IVF treatment. This egg had its nuclei removed – but retained its healthy mitochondria
“Those “left over” “fertilized eggs” were, in fact, human beings. Persons, created in God’s image, who were killed so some scientists could experiment with his or her parts.
“Then the scientists created 80 embryos but destroyed them after eight days.
“Eighty human beings killed in the name of “science!” Eighty! A group of scientists has killed 80 human beings and they describe their work as similar to “changing the battery on a laptop.”
“May God have mercy on our souls.”
American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.
