CA Planned Parenthood Fraud Case Reinstated

Washington, D.C. (08 July 2010) – The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has reinstated the case against Planned Parenthood affiliates in California in which a whistle-blowing former employee alleges Planned Parenthood overcharged the government tens of millions of dollars for reimbursement of birth control drug costs.

As Judie Brown, president of American Life League, pointed out, “The ruling has been hailed as a step toward justice and demanding accountability from the nation’s largest abortion chain. And it’s a ruling that is long overdue!”

“Planned Parenthood can no longer be above the law,” said Rita Diller, national director of American Life League’s Stop Planned Parenthood project (STOPP). “This case is a glaring example of the cloud of deceit surrounding Planned Parenthood. It is truly an organization built on lies and the blood of the innocent.”

State audits in both California and Washington revealed that Planned Parenthood has been overbilling the government.

The American Center for Law and Justice, the public-interest firm that handled the whistle-blower’s appeal, stated, “This is a huge victory. While this case is by no means over, winning this appeal means we have gotten the federal claim over the threshold hurdles and can now get down to the heart of this case: the alleged fraud.”

The federal False Claims Act authorizes private individuals to sue government contractors that submit false claims for payment, to recover fraudulently obtained funds.

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Katie Walker at 540.659.4942.
