This nation’s citizenry celebrates Labor Day but at the same time ignores the countless number of mothers who will never experience labor before giving birth because they have chosen to abort their children. Such a contrast does not find its way into headlines or television reporting, yet there it is.
Statistical data confirm what we feel in our souls. Killing babies in America continues to increase despite the Dobbs decision, which was quite literally a nonstarter in the war to end this killing.
John Bursch, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, took a moment to praise an Idaho appeals court’s decision that, according to LifeNews would allow “Idaho to enforce its ban on most abortions while the state appeals a lower-court order from a liberal judge who tried to create a right to abortion.”
Bursch told the media, “States have the strongest possible interest in protecting the most fundamental of our human rights—the right to life. Nothing in the federal Constitution grants a right to take innocent, unborn life. . . . We’re pleased the court is respecting Idahoans’ desire to protect life, which Attorney General Labrador has fought so courageously to defend.”
While we certainly applaud Idaho’s interim baby step, we find it ironic that an attorney general is reduced to fighting for the right to life of some babies in a nation where every person deserves protection, not elimination, under the law.
Across the nation in New Jersey, 40 Days for Life is “pledging free legal defense for pro-life advocates who could face prosecution under a new New Jersey law that the group warns could be used against peaceful protests outside abortion facilities.”
Imagine that! A state in which it could be a crime to stand in front of a building where babies are being killed and peacefully hold a sign while praying for the expectant mothers who enter there. This calls to mind the horrors of the German gas chambers where a simple protest could result in the end of a person’s life at the hands of a brutal government. But this time it is happening right here in the USA!
Finally, we arrive at the worst scenario of all: the bloodlust of Planned Parenthood and its allies. In its most recent report, Stop Planned Parenthood International states:
[Planned Parenthood] spreads like wildfire through college campuses across the country with student-led chapters that offer contraception and now abortion pills to students. Just last week, a university in New Hampshire announced that it would start its own contraceptive vending machines on campus filled with “condoms, internal condoms, dental dams, over-the-counter birth control, pregnancy tests, ovulation tests, and Plan B.” All the supplies were donated by Planned Parenthood. As the late Jim Sedlak, founder of STOPP, stated, Planned Parenthood is not only stealing lives but is stealing souls. When sex becomes meaningless and recreational, rather than sacred within marriage between one man and one woman, the soul separates itself further from Our Lord.
The truth is as clear as fresh running water in a brook. We are far from our goal of total protection for every innocent person, born and preborn, not to mention defending the souls of our children.
All of this begs the question: Just how numb is our sense of justice?
Well, we who fight for moms and babies are not numb! And we pray for those who are: Lord, help them shake it off and join us in this struggle. The vulnerable are depending on us.
