Washington, D.C. (24 August 2010) – American Life League president Judie Brown issued the following statement in response to news that, in its ruling on the Sherley v. Sebelius case, the District Court for the District of Columbia issued a preliminary injunction against the Obama administration’s approval of human embryonic stem cell research while also upholding the flawed Dickey-Wicker Amendment.
“Judge Royce Lamberth’s decision has confirmed the fundamental American principle of seeking equal protection under the law for all – no matter how young, vulnerable or marginalized.
“Despite the Obama administration’s rabid and unscientific fixation on destroying human persons for ‘research,’ it is simply common sense that a government committed to protecting human rights for all human beings should not sanction ripping apart some human beings to use their parts for the supposed benefit of other human beings.
“We must never forget, while caught in the weeds of politics and intellectual debate, that human embryonic stem cell research is the deliberate and utilitarian dismemberment and dissection of individual human beings. It is the ultimate mark of a barbaric society, and it has no place beside the noble ideals to which our country is dedicated.”
