Every year Planned Parenthood releases an annual report with lots of really large numbers used to heap praise upon itself for all its accomplishments. What it doesn’t include is comparison numbers from prior years. And while the report most likely succeeds at swaying its donors to give even more money and may impress those who haven’t a clue what Planned Parenthood’s business numbers have looked like for the past 65 years or so, a historical look at the numbers paints an entirely different picture of the abortion giant.
STOPP is in a unique position to present historical comparisons of Planned Parenthood numbers, since it is the only organization working to eliminate the abortion giant that has compiled detailed Planned Parenthood statistics reaching all the way back to the 1950s.
Viewed from a historical perspective in the light of those numbers, this report gives us lots of ammo to shore up the proof we already have that Planned Parenthood is an abortion business masquerading as a health care provider and a champion of women. And those health care services are spiraling at a very rapid rate, as Planned Parenthood becomes much more dependent on its abortion business.
HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES FROM STOPP’S HISTORICAL ANALYSIS:
While Planned Parenthood is shutting down facilities across the nation and building mega-abortion centers to replace some, its customer base is shrinking. It has fewer customers now than it has had since 2001.
And with that drop in customers comes a huge drop in its services.
Since 2009: Prenatal services have dropped by 54 percent, PAP tests have dropped 58 percent, and breast exams have decreased 41 percent.
In 1994 PP reported its largest number of adoption referrals at over 11,000. In 2013 it referred only 1,880 women for adoption. That’s an 82 percent decrease in adoptions since its peak.
In 2013, for every adoption referral, Planned Parenthood aborted 174 babies.
Planned Parenthood killed almost 328,000 babies in 2013. That’s slightly up from the prior year, but is still lower than three of the four most recent years. It is a whopping 34 percent increase, though, since 2004. PP now commits in its facilities almost one-third of all abortions in the US. Twenty years ago it owned nine percent of the abortion market. Today, it owns over 30 percent. Abortion made Planned Parenthood $170 million dollars richer in 2013. That’s almost 56 percent of its non-government clinic income.
Planned Parenthood has killed 6.6 million children since 1970 when it first started committing abortions in New York. That’s an amount equal to the population of LA and Chicago—our nation’s second and third most populous cities—combined.
In the bloody wake of all that killing and with a record income of $1.3 billion, PP provided fewer services in 2013 than it has since 2006. Keep in mind that during eight of those nine years where it amassed such a large decline in services, PP enjoyed an annual income of over $1 billion.
PP’s customer base continues to dwindle. It now has the lowest number of customers since 2001.
It lost over 160,000 customers in 2013. Planned Parenthood has lost almost half a million customers since its numbers peaked in 2006.
It is clear that Planned Parenthood is in trouble, as it is being forced to hunker down and fight pro-life forces on every corner in every state, and in the legislatures at the state and federal level. So many arrows are flying at it from every direction that it is being forced now to pick its battles carefully and is dropping health care—betting the farm, as it were, on its lucrative abortion business, eager donors, and government income. But even its government income fell four percent last year.
Our efforts to defeat Planned Parenthood are having a tremendous impact. We have to turn up the heat in 2015, and that is exactly what we are doing at American Life League.
