People fighting Planned Parenthood across the country continue to run into obstacles from the administration and federal courts. Obama is still pushing a rule change that would make it impossible for states to deny federal Title X money to Planned Parenthood. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this week that Louisiana cannot block Medicaid funds to the organization.
Abortion and Planned Parenthood continue to remain big topics in the upcoming November elections. The presidential candidates, as well as candidates for the House and Senate in a large number of states, are taking positions for and against abortion. As an educational organization, ALL does not take positions for or against any candidates, but we remind our readers that you should learn the position of all the candidates on abortion. We must have people in office who respect the dignity of every human being—born and preborn—if we are to return our country to one that protects every person.
The fight over abortion reached into late-night TV talk show programs this week. Andy Richter, the long-time sidekick of Conan O’Brien, hosted the “Sexy Beast” fundraiser for the Planned Parenthood L.A. affiliate on September 10. During the event, Richter thanked Planned Parenthood for its role in helping his current wife abort their first child. It was reported that Richter told The Hollywood Reporter, “Planned Parenthood helps a ton of people. If they don’t agree with that, f— ’em. You can quote me on that. Tell them I said, ‘F— ’em.’”
Despite continued efforts by the pro-abortion lobby to sweep the illegal selling of baby body parts under the rug, the Congressional Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives continues to seek the truth. This past week, the panel moved to hold the firm StemExpress in contempt of Congress. The action was taken after many months of StemExpress, who receives parts of aborted babies from a number of abortion facilities, dodging questions and refusing to hand over detailed information. The Select Panel is after the truth.
Finally, Gloria Steinem was the keynote speaker at a Planned Parenthood fundraiser in Memphis, Tennessee. She said, among other things, “Forced childbirth is the single biggest cause of global warming.” Will they stop at nothing to defend killing God’s children? Celebrate Life Editor, William Mahoney, PhD, takes a close look at this subject.
