American Life League’s Associate group, Pro-Life Wisconsin, had a very busy 2010, and 2011 is promising to bring even greater pro-life efforts on its part!
Pro-Life Wisconsin’s February 6, 2010, pro-life rally on UW-Madison’s Library Mall, in opposition to the proposed late-term abortion plans at the Madison Surgery Center, was attended by nearly 800 people.
Pro-Life Wisconsin and the Alliance Defense Fund submitted an open-records request that revealed the Department of Homeland Security’s investigation of Wisconsin pro-lifers.
PLW’s web site, ProLifeWisconsin.org, received a makeover. In addition, PLW launched a blog and opened Facebook and Twitter accounts!
During the spring of 2010, more than 100 people attended the Good Friday prayer vigil at Affiliated Medical Services in Milwaukee and, because of grassroots pro-life activism, the Madison Surgery Center announced that it will not be performing late-term abortions.
Pro-Life Wisconsin, Vigil for Life of Madison and the Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe hosted a Mother’s Day baby shower for a couple who, due to the efforts of sidewalk counselors, decided not to abort their baby. Almost 100 people attended.
Over the summer, Wisconsin’s attorney general recommended an audit of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics due to its requirement that medical students participate in rotations at Planned Parenthood. Wisconsin state law prohibits taxpayer funding of elective abortions. Subsequently, University of Wisconsin abortionist Caryn Dutton fled the state for Harvard University.
While Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin begged for donations in Pro-Life Wisconsin’s name, Pro-Life Wisconsin welcomed Steve Karlen as its new development director, as well as adding three new affiliates, increasing PLW’s pro-life presence in the state.
Countless preborn lives were spared throughout Wisconsin as a result of the 40 Days for Life Fall 2010 campaign, and more than 400 women in Milwaukee called for crisis pregnancy counseling after seeing PLW’s “Pregnant? Need Help?” billboards.
Pro-Life Wisconsin and 40 Days for Life-Milwaukee sang Christmas carols (“empty manger caroling”) outside Affiliated Medical Services on Christmas Eve Day, while PLW’s “Christmas starts with Christ” billboards around the state raised the ire of Catholics for Choice president Frances Kissling. Thirteen billboards placed throughout the city of Milwaukee for the month of December highlighted the disproportionate number of black babies aborted every year. What wonderful Christmas gifts!
In 2011, Pro-Life Wisconsin will continue its pro-life efforts—encouraging activism and training pro-lifers, working with crisis pregnancy centers to provide care for mothers and babies, promoting the personhood message, exposing the abortion industry using media to bring the pro-life message to all of Wisconsin and much more!
