action alerts: BUSH / SPECTER
BUSH: In his post-election news conference, President Bush spoke of spending political capital during his second term. American Life League is calling on the president to use some of that political capital on behalf of the babies. One suggestion is that he issue a personhood proclamation similar to the one President Reagan issued in 1988. Pro-lifers are asked to contact the president to encourage this action.

SPECTER: Attention is focused on Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), who is in line to become chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee — the committee that examines nominees to the federal courts. According to media reports, Specter said, “When you talk about judges who would change the right of a woman to choose, overturn Roe v. Wade, I think that is unlikely.” In the wake of pro-life indignation, Specter has begun to backtrack.
Nevertheless, Pro-Life Wisconsin, an American Life League associate group, notes that a Specter chairmanship “would be an unmitigated disaster for the pro-life movement. Specter has for many years carried water for the pro-abortion lobby.” Pro-lifers are asked to contact Senate Republican leaders and ask that Specter not be appointed judiciary chairman.
