hot button issues

JUDIE BROWN’S BOOK: Of Saving Those Damned Catholics, a defense of Catholic teaching, New York Post columnist Ray Kerrison writes, “Judie Brown’s work fills a void screaming for attention — the persistent relentless assault on Catholic orthodoxy by dissidents attempting to reshape the church in their image. She spells it out and names the names without violating Christian charity. She deserves a wide hearing.”

TO ORDER: “Saving Those Damned Catholics” is available from ALL in hardcover or paperback. Call 866-LET-LIVE or purchase online.

catholic heroes

LUFKIN, TEXAS: Two Catholic priests have joined together in efforts to make the community more aware of the tragedy of abortion, raising public awareness about Planned Parenthood’s plans to expand its local facility.

(Reading: “Lufkin priests team up to help organize abortion protests,” Lufkin Daily News, 4/2/07)

planned parenthood

THEIR WORST ENEMY: Stop Planned Parenthood International publishes a weekly update on efforts to expose Planned Parenthood’s anti-life agenda. If you want to be part of the Wednesday STOPP Report family, sign up by “>e-mail.

stem cell politics

MISSOURI: State representative Jim Lembke’s proposal that would allow voters to effectively overturn the recently approved Amendment 2 has cleared a House committee without major opposition.

COMMENT: This is good news for embryonic children in Missouri.

(Reading: “Surprise move advances anti-stem cell measure,” Columbia [Missouri] Tribune, 3/27/06)

terri schiavo

BOBBY SCHINDLER: A very moving open letter to Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg, the man who stood by and watched as Michael Schiavo got his way and Terri was starved to death, has been written by Terri’s brother Bobby.

(Reading: Letter to Bishop Robert Lynch, Life Site News, 3/9/07; “The dehydration death of a nation,” World Net Daily, 3/30/07)

zinger

NOT REALLY: A Minnesota couple donated “unused embryos” to a program dedicated to research using human embryonic stem cells. The mother of these embryonic children said, “I’m not going to dispose of them. They are not going to amount to human beings, but they are worth more than that.”

COMMENT: This mother’s comments say a whole lot about the state of our nation when it comes to recognizing the dignity of a human being at his beginning. No wonder the world is in crisis.

(Reading: “U of M offers another option for unused embryos,” Associated Press, 4/1/07)

reminders

AMAZING DVD: “Baby Steps: Live from the womb, 16 stages of pre-birth development,” is an amazing new video from American Life League, featuring dramatic 4-D ultrasound images of preborn babies from 8 to 34 weeks development. Said ALL’s Judie Brown, “There is no way that anyone can look at these pictures and not immediately recognize that the preborn child is one of us, and fully human in every way. I am convinced that these pictures will save lives.”

TO ORDER: The “Baby Steps” DVD is available from ALL for $9.95 plus shipping and handling. Call 866-LET-LIVE toll-free, or purchase online.

NATIONAL PRO-LIFE T-SHIRT DAY: April 24 is the date for ALL’s fifth annual National Pro-life T-shirt Day. The day provides an opportunity for all pro-life people, especially students, to make a public stand on behalf of preborn children. Additional information is available at www.NationalProLifeTshirtDay.com.

TO ORDER: The official shirt of ALL’s National Pro-life T-shirt Day is available online. Please place your order by April 10.

PETITION: An American Life League petition asks Catholic bishops to address the scandal caused by political figures who claim the Catholic faith but support abortion. Church law states that those “who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to communion.”

ACTION: All Catholics are invited to sign the petition that will be delivered to U.S. bishops in June.

reflection for prayer

LUKE 23:46-47: Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit”; and when he had said this he breathed his last. The centurion who witnessed what had happened glorified God and said, “This man was innocent beyond doubt.”
