A “medical miracle” gives coming home for the holidays a whole new meaning for the family of 2-month-old Chase Daniel White. Baby Chase was born Oct. 14, six weeks premature and suffering from gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a birth defect in which an infant is born with some or all of his/her intestines on the outside of the abdomen due to an abnormal opening in the abdominal muscle. About 1-in-5,000 infants in the United States are born with gastroschisis.
