As Fräulein Maria in Sound of Music, Julie Andrews sang of the frightful experience of being stung a bee, assuring the little ones in her charge that if one remembers their favorite things, daily experiences don’t seem so bad. We would call this the power of positive thinking.
But there are times when the manipulation of reality can lead to irreversible harm. Such is the case with the family planning cartel, not to mention those who serve at their pleasure. One case in point is the debate over Title X clinics and their use of contraception. Please note that Title X is the government program that doles out contraception as stated in the law, so why the latest brouhaha?
Politico reported that the Trump administration is attempting to move that family planning program “away from contraception [and] toward conception.” This became noteworthy several months ago, but recently the idea has garnered the wrath of anti-life elected officials, including New Hampshire senator Jeanne Shaheen. As a counterbalance to what she and some of her peers find repulsive, they have offered a proposal that would increase access to birth control.
The proper response from the White House in addressing the Title X scourge should have begun with a simple question: How can a government program fund chemicals that harm women and in many cases kill preborn children? Of course, Trump did not ask that question.
Shame on Trump and those in his administration who avoid truth rather than offend their opponents. Tsk-tsk.
And so, the question becomes, Why has the ability to carry a baby to term become a negative in our society while pilling the baby to death or chemically assaulting her into oblivion is celebrated? It is as though preborn babies have become enemies of the very people who should be welcoming them, loving them, and celebrating the fact that they are moms from the first instant that pregnancy is known.
Instead of advancing this totally pro-life attitude, the government has failed mothers, women who may become mothers, and those whose lives are jeopardized by ingesting contraception in the first place.
In our weird world, killing is called reproductive choice, and pregnancy is viewed as optional, even though it exists. Such deadly alterations to nature’s agenda have brought us to a frightful place. One wonders what it will take to awaken the people in this nation to truth. I have often been tempted, for example, to inquire of young people, Did you crawl out from under a rock or did your mom give birth to you? And if it is the latter, can you look in the mirror and imagine that your life is worthless and you should have been aborted before you were born?
While answers may vary in intensity, I cannot recall any twenty- or thirty-something saying they would have preferred death. And yet these same individuals are constantly promoting abortion among friends, classmates, and others. This comes to pass as the White House betrays the babies by pursuing political calculations rather than pro-life principle. As we well know, holding one’s finger in the wind and making life-and-death decisions based on wind movement never bodes well for moral principle.
So here we are facing chaos in the wombs of women, disturbances in the political world of pro-life activity, and deadly silence from the pulpits where truth always found a home. Writing about this, Kevin Burke of Rachel’s Vineyard opined,
Some clergy feel abortion is too much of a hot-button political topic and avoid the subject in their preaching. Others consider abortion a private, sensitive and volatile emotional issue; best not to go there.
Other deacons and priests are ambivalent about the abortion issue, perhaps seeing it as part of a right-wing, conservative agenda.
His words underscore the reason why there is chaos in utero. When religious figures and others hunt for ways not to speak about the babies and their fate, pew sitters are left to their own devices and sin becomes a mere word, murder a topic for crime shows, and pregnancy just another female condition.
Why have millions of preborn children been annihilated? The answer is before our eyes as the chaos in the womb continues.
