As pro-life Americans, we strive to help create a cultural condition in which expectant mothers can comfortably give birth to their babies, giving each of them the opportunity to write their life story as they grow and mature in the way God intends. We realize that it is difficult for some expectant mothers to see the beauty in their pregnancy, but we also know that these women have been given the heart of a mother. It is part of their feminine identity as designed by God.
No, not every woman will become a biological mother; some will adopt, some will choose to accept their infertility, and some will devote their lives to others, whether by choosing a religious life or a life of service within their communities. In each of these cases, their choice is based on reality, an awareness of their personal possibilities and responsibilities, and their desire to welcome whatever God sends their way.
In each case, such women say yes to God.
This is how Mary responded to the angel’s message to her: She said yes to God.
This is how Joseph responded when he learned that his betrothed was with child. He said yes to God and became Jesus’ foster father.
With their yeses, the first Christmas story came to be. An infant changed the world forever.
We pray that this is how each of us responds to the actions the Lord takes in our lives, even when we are suffering, have lost a loved one, or find life more of a challenge than we think it should be.
May the spirit of Christmas, the blessing of the Holy Family, and the glory of the birth of Christ bless each heart with appreciation for the wonders of God’s goodness. May we open our hearts, our minds, and our will to Him as we renew our faith reflected in Christ’s miraculous birth.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men of good will.
