Thanksgiving, Lord!

By Judie Brown

This week we gather together as families, as fellow Christians, and as neighbors to give thanks for all the blessings we have received. For me personally, this is a bittersweet time of year because nothing about our family would be what it is today without my beloved husband Paul.

He has been away from us for four years now, but the memories are overwhelming. Paul loved the holidays, and he always had a way of making them special for everyone in our family and neighborhood. The Irishman knew how to have a great time.

So as we contemplate giving thanks, we will remember our loved ones who have gone on, our immediate family, and all the many ways in which the Lord has touched our lives. We thank Him especially for the gift of life, without which nothing could be imagined or remembered.

This celebration reminds us of these words written by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: “Gratitude is characteristic only of the humble. The egotistic are so impressed by their own importance that they take everything given them as if it were their due. They have no room in their hearts for recollection of the underserved favors they received.”

Let us recollect our thoughts and seek to be humble of heart, thanking Him for everything in our lives. Celebrate each other’s lives and give thanks that you have been fearfully and wonderfully made in His image.

Every one of us at American Life League wishes you and your loved ones a most wonderful Thanksgiving!
