Federal Court Defunds Planned Parenthood; The Abortion Giant Doubles Down on Abortions

Last Thursday, a three-judge panel for the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit voted to allow Congress to strip Planned Parenthood of its Medicaid reimbursements for a full year. The bill, as currently written, allows Planned Parenthood to receive Medicaid reimbursements only if it first stops committing abortions that fall outside of various exceptions clauses.

When the bill was first announced, rumors swelled that Planned Parenthood would give affiliates the option to cease all abortions in an effort to maintain federal funding.

Posts on the liberal social media site BlueSky stated that Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, reportedly confirmed that this was an option she wanted to provide to affiliates.

Carter Sherman (@cartersherman.bsky.social) posted the following:

An appeals court is letting the Trump administration “defund” Planned Parenthood by icing it out of Medicaid.

In a press call, I asked Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson if the group is considering letting affiliates stop providing abortions to preserve federal funding. She confirmed it:

Our Planned Parenthood committees have created an option for affiliates to stop providing abortions in the event that abortion is able to [be] provided in that community. That’s not an attempt to walk away from abortion. Planned Parenthood strongly stands behind our need and ability to provide abortion care wherever it is legal in this country. It is simply an opportunity for us to engage our federation to be able to provide care and preserve as much Medicaid funding for reimbursement.

However, subsequent posts then confirmed that not only had Planned Parenthood backed off the idea of stepping away from abortions but was doubling down on it, confirming that abortion is always its number one priority.

The statement read in part:

There will never be a world in which Planned Parenthood walks away from providing abortion care—to the contrary, our marching orders are simple: Care continues. PPFA and its members will continue to partner to find innovative ways for patients to continue to access the full range of reproductive care from their local Planned Parenthood. And Planned Parenthood health care clinics will continue to provide abortion care everywhere it is lawful to do so.

Listen to its own words again: “There will never be a world in which Planned Parenthood walks away from providing abortion care.”

When given the opportunity to perhaps show that it is more interested in patient care than abortion violence, Planned Parenthood chooses to double down. This proves (not that we needed the proof) that Planned Parenthood’s number one priority has been and always will be abortion violence.

Planned Parenthood is 100% no exceptions when it comes to providing abortion. It’s time that pro-lifers band together to be truly pro-life without exception and without compromise.

ALL’s STOPP encourages our lawmakers to fully defund the abortion giant without exception.

Katie Xavios, national director of American Life League, joins Molly Smith on From the Media, a daily podcast advocating for the pro-life movement.

Katie highlights a significant victory in West Virginia that allows the state to ban abortion pills, setting a precedent for other states. The ruling restricts Planned Parenthood and abortionists from prescribing abortion pills but ignores pills mailed from beyond US borders. Forty-one Planned Parenthood facilities in the US have closed, driven by federal and state defunding efforts, including in South Carolina and Texas, where the largest Planned Parenthood facility is set to close.

So how will Planned Parenthood continue to operate? The nation’s largest abortion provider continues to shift abortion business to online platforms, underscoring the need for digital advocacy to empower women with hope and resilience.

Katie also discusses American Life League’s Culture of Life Studies Program, a pre-K-12 educational resource that integrates pro-life values into school lessons, many of which are available for free. The Culture of Life Studies Program instills pro-life values in future generations, encouraging parents and schools to adopt it in their homes and classrooms.
