American Life League is launching a new initiative to recognize the Feast of the Annunciation as a day to pray for babies in the womb.
"This holy day, traditionally celebrated on March 25 and already set aside as a national holiday in a number of Latin American countries, marks the angel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary, when he brought God's message that she had been chosen to be the mother of the Son of God," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. "This feast day should be the day for focusing our efforts on the one true way to end abortion-restoring legal personhood to the preborn child."
American Life League will observe the day, celebrated this year on March 26 because March 25 falls on a Sunday, with a special Mass offered for the safe delivery of all preborn children. In order to include the intentions of as many preborn children in the Mass as possible, ALL has posted a web page on which individuals can add the names of children to the intentions for this Mass.
"This feast day provides an excellent opportunity for parents to teach their children about the sanctity of every human being’s life and the fact that just because a preborn child cannot be seen, she still possesses the same intrinsic value as you and me," said Mrs. Brown. "Despite what our secularized culture may say, abortion kills an innocent human person and is always wrong."
To aid in engaging families, churches and communities in the Annunciation celebration, American Life League is offering a resource booklet, "Life Is a Miracle," which can be obtained through the ALL web site.
"We should never abandon our struggle to establish personhood for all innocent preborn human beings," said Mrs. Brown. "It’s our hope that this feast day will help all people to better understand the truth that preborn children deserve our protection. We invite everyone to join us in a very special day of joy, prayer and dedication to Our Lady of Life."
