  • Election 2024 Results Mean More Work for STOPP—Defund Planned Parenthood
  • Prayer warriors and a pro-life bishop gather to pray for the sanctity of life.

By Ed Martin

The recent election produced some extraordinary results. President Donald J. Trump won a landslide victory in both the electoral college and the popular vote. He has a clear mandate in his return as the 47th president of the United States.

In addition to the Trump victory, the Republicans in the US Senate achieved a majority, which will allow the confirmation of pro-life judges. Finally, it appears that the US House will stay in Republican hands, if narrowly, which means pro-life leaders will be in charge of the budget for the federal government.

The Republican leadership at the federal level is of course nominally pro-life. But this does not mean they live up to the name. While most of these Republicans have claimed that they will be pro-life in office, too often they let Americans down.

Will this happen again? We will soon know because one starting point for all Americans must be to demand the defunding of Planned Parenthood. There will be an opportunity for Speaker Mike Johnson to prove his mettle during the last month of this year. During that time, funding priorities will be discussed. Republican leadership—from Trump to the Senate to the House—must act to defund Planned Parenthood. There can be no doubt that tax dollars must be blocked from abortion.

STOPP is committed to fighting against Planned Parenthood’s funding. Pro-life Republicans must join this fight; it’s the least they can do!

Amid the libelous political ads and Planned Parenthood’s canvassing for signatures to push abortion amendments in 10 US states these past months, many pro-life advocates sought to counter these destructive amendment proposals and Planned Parenthood’s propaganda with prayer, fasting, and the education of others regarding each ballot measure. For example, American Life League’s Marian Blue Wave asked its prayer partners to pray for the 10 states that had abortion measures on their ballots, and it provided digital information cards on each of these abortion ballot measures.

Colorado was one of the states that proposed establishing a “right to abortion” in its constitution, repealing a state ban on public funding for abortions, and requiring abortion to be covered by state and local government health insurance policies. Colorado was certainly facing one of the most extreme measures this election season, compelling pro-life Coloradans to act in peaceful prayer against the evil of the amendment.

A recent example of prayerful witness to defend human life in Colorado was a Eucharistic procession in Denver led by Archbishop Samuel Aquila as part of the 40 Days for Life campaign. An article in the Colorado Times Recorder states that the Eucharistic procession took place around a Planned Parenthood facility in Park Hill, followed by a Mass held in a garden of a health center.

DenverCatholic.org describes the procession as follows:

What is normally a bustling area of the city, near parks, businesses, and major throughways, was punctuated by a serene silence as pro-lifers prayed and accompanied the Eucharistic Lord around the Planned Parenthood facility in Denver. It was clear to all who attended that a spirit of profound prayer punctuated the gathering.

Though the number of attendees was not reported, pictures of the pious procession can be seen in the article, showing the beautiful outcome of people of all ages in attendance.

What is also worth noting about this prayerful gathering is that it took place on All Souls’ Day—a fitting day to remember the lives of all the preborn children lost due to the evil of abortion. Archbishop Aquila mentioned this in a speech, saying:

As his children, on this All Souls Day, we grieve the loss of the millions of innocent lives–our brothers and sisters in Christ–lost to abortion, and we pray for a culture of life that respects, honors and defends each person from the moment of conception to natural death. As children of the Father, we are called to hope in him and to work so that all might have the abundant life to which he calls us.

STOPP International commends Archbishop Aquila, the Diocese of Denver’s Respect Life Office, 40 Days for Life, and all the pro-life warriors who have prayerfully and publicly witnessed to the truth of protecting human life by opposing these states’ abortion amendments. May we venture forward with the commitment and courage to continue to pray for these states and our country.
