In Houston, Texas there is a fertility clinic that has been given permission by the Baylor College of Medicine's ethics board to do prenatal genetic diagnosis to determine the gender of human embryos. These gender selection techniques will make it possible for a couple to choose the sex of their child, thus perhaps condemning the rest of the babies to death or to research in a lab which will also result in their death.
One professional, who is ssociated with the National Embryo Donation Center, has said that the use of prenatal genetic diagnosis for "family balancing" is banned in many countries. Apparently not so in the United States, where policy makers at every level of government seem to have a problem identifying any human being as a person prior to birth.
